Anyone else worried the G80 will not be aggressive/distinguished enough?
I think all of the generations of M3 have had the right level of aesthetic differences to make them look aggressive and sporty without being over the top or ostentatious. To the untrained eye it might just appear as a nice 3 series, but to the enthusiast it is immediately recognizable. That said I am a bit worried based some of the current M models (M5 especially) that it will be hard to differentiate from a regular 3.
For example, I went to my local dealer yesterday and outside was a white F90 M5 on 19 in wheels. Usually M vehicles jump out at me but I actually walked by this car twice before realizing it was an M5. Then on the way home I saw another F90 M5 in black that once again I thought was just a regular 5 series until I recognized the wheels and looked closer. I guess on one hand it is nice that our cars are a bit of a sleeper, but I am a bit worried based on spy photos it will be to tame. Anyone else? |

You are right that the M5 has always been a bit more conservative, but in the past (at least F10 and E60) it was still immediately recognizable to me at least. It just appears from the spy photos that the G80 is going this same "conservative" route verses previous models.

Honestly I think BMW is going to do very well with the G80 platform and will be aggressive considering that the M5 is more of a luxury family sedan purposely designed as a sleeper (Holds true for all generations thus far). I think that BMW has got their hunger back to be the top performance car once again. Really excited to see this car come out just please RWD.. lower weight and option for 6 speed

I think it will be aggressive looking; however, I think they may try to make this G80 more daily drivable with the auto tranny and significantly more comfortable. The F80 for many was too hard core to DD with the solid rear subframe and somewhat rough DCT at slow speeds. I think a mini M5 is a successful approach.

whateever the G20's exterior design faults, will be made up by the M designers on the G80 it just needs a few tweaks the M3 always was a heads up in styling over the standard 3 what I AM looking forward to are the new technical features potential hybrid electric turbo configurable AWD 500HP at highest config water injection exhaust sounds of the new S58 oh my |

I don't believe there will be enough of a styling / performance difference to make me want to trade my 2018 F80. AWD is not a benefit. Don't need it and not necessary. Electric motors and water injection? Too much tech for me. No manual? That would be a deal killer for me. I am interested in the specs of the S58 though. The S55 has been a solid, reliable performer to date. The G80 will certainly be different. Whether its better is left up to the individual to decide.

Early prototype views of the G80 where all the M trinkets are not on view And The F90 M5, which just like the F10 M5 doesn't make as much of a jump from regular series to M car. They are mite sleeper by design. Relax, a beastly fast and wide G80 is coming

Maybe they will surprise us with a hybrid/AWD/48v/RWS 500hp+ monster but then the price will also be eye widening as well.

I’m also hoping it’s not going to be like the M2 later getting the S55 and first year G80 having a S55 then later introducing a potential S58 engine. |

In general, ynguldyn is the most reliable source for future vehicle information: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=901686 Quote:
"The target power output for S58, the engine to be used in M3/M4/X3M/X4M, is 475hp." Also, he clarified in a follow-up discussion that this would be for the base model. A Competition model could very well come close to 500hp. We will know more details next year when the X3/X4 M specs are announced. |

It appears you have both an overly romanticized vision of the typical modern-day luxury performance sedan buyer and an overly negative attitude toward the state of the art in performance sedans. Neither is likely to bring peace to you or the forum. Appreciate that we can still buy high output turbocharged ICE vehicles. The days are coming to a close. If that's not your bag, and what you want is a nigh-homolongated race car, buy the BMW of yesteryear and customize it to your taste. |
