Oil Temp Readings for my 2017 230i
All -- what is the easiest way to get Oil Temperatures for my 2017 230i? I saw that the Apple iTunes Store sells an App called: ODB Fusion for $9.99. But then you need some other stuff, too. Is there a better way so I can know when my oil is 185 degrees Fahrenheit??
Thanks! |

Buy that and the recommended LELink transmitter for another $35. Path of least resistance and least money. Beyond that you're what 10x as much for P3 and 20x for Awron?

Search Dash Command in the forums. That's what I use.

I'll make a guess that getting oil temps on your 2017 230i is the same as getting it on my 2017 M240i. You don't need an app or an OBD-II connector for this either. Since you're only going to do this infrequently at oil changes, don't spend any money unless you want to constantly monitor other things. The oil temp will be displayed until you turn off the car, and you will have to go through this sequence every time you start the car if you want to see temps.
Try this with the ignition on, car not started. 1) Add up the last five digits of your VIN. Keep this number handy 2) Turn on ignition, do not start car. Wait for the service display to end and return to normal. (Pic 1) 3) Press and hold the odometer reset button until you see the display say 01 Identification. Then release it. (Pic 2) 4) Press and release the button to advance the menu to the item that says 10 Unlock. (Pic 3) 5) Hold the button down until the display says Lock On and Code: 00. (Pic 4) 6) Press and release the button quickly until the display shows the number you found in the first step. My code is 21 as shown. Pic 5. 7) Press and hold the button until it says 10 Unlock. Pic 6. 8) Press and release the button to scroll to 14 Temperature. Pic 7. 9) Press and hold button until you see 01 O.temp.sensor Pic 8. 10) Press and release button to scroll to Oil Temp. It is displayed in Degrees C. 185F is 85C. Pic 9. The entire process takes less than a minute. |

Just to add, the car can be running and the procedure can be done at any time, also you can switch back to the default display while the car is running at any time by holding the button down until the hidden menu is exited.

Great pictures, thanks. I have a 16 M235 and have tried several times unsuccessfully to get oil temp to display. I see the display is slightly different on the new models so possibly the software is too.
Anyone successful in getting this to work on the older cars? |
