Ranking Tires by Road Noise
As someone who appreciates the M235's driveability but who drives only in the city and on the highway - no tracking - and as someone who likes to listen to music and not road noise, I'd appreciate hearing from people about tire noise of various tire options, assuming the tires handle well. Runflats only please.
Many thanks. |

Run flats are all noisier than non run flats. I'm running Michelin A/S 3+ which are very quite.

I went from the oem runflat Bridgestones to Michelin AS3+ On my 135is and can't believe how quiet, better riding yet grippier they are.

Might be a good Q for the tires subforum moderator from Tire Rack - TR must have some kind of info on this. I'm on the Conti RFTs and they aren't overly loud to me, but n/t to compare to, and this car is so much quieter than my last that I don't really have a basis for comparison.

I'm surprisingly happy with the bridgestone s001 RFT that came on the car. For a RFT they are not bad, I would think to get much better you have to go non-run flat.
There maybe better RFT tires out there, I'm just comparing the current bridgestones to the RFTs that came on my 2007 335i... that was 10 years ago and I couldn't wait to get rid of them. They must have came a long way in ten years because I like these run flats. |

MPSS
This is my 1st set of PSS tires and I am about to replace them with another set of MPSS.
Yes they grip and corner but they also let you run them down all the way to the tread indicators with to no audible increase in noise. . On my prior cars I did not have a 2nd set of wheels so I ran AS tires and with a staggered set-up & the noise after 25k miles was awful. . So I have a square winter set with AS Conti and run them from Dec 1 thru mid-March and then run the MPSS the rest of the year. . I have my next set of MPSS sitting in the garage and I cant wait to install them in the spring. No Tracking just sporting around. |

Of the 3 summer tires I've used on this car the Bridgestone S001 RFT are the noisiest, and least comfortable overall. Michelin PSS are in the middle as far as noise is concerned, most comfortable overall. The quietest (only slightly better than Michelin PSS) have been Pirelli P Zero (non-RFT), intermediate comfort overall.
