Raised Tire Lettering
Hey Guys,
So, do any of you have raised tire lettering (aka tire stickers) on your tyres? What's you position, are you happy with them? If anyone has them can you please post some pictures? Thanks... Last edited by omera60; 06-05-2017 at 11:29 AM.. |

I never understood why people did it.. But to each his own.. If you like them, go ahead and do them.. Me, maybe it's because I'm old, but I could care less about what it says on my tires.. I do remember, as a teen, looking at tires.. back then, I was always checking to see what rubber different performance cars were riding on.

Tirestickers.com does theses specifically. They may them out of a durable compound that won't crack or yellow from the chemicals in the rubber.
Imo so cars can pull it off, others can't. I've thought about doing them, but i may reserve that for when I go full track mode. Giant wing, front splitter, diffuser and tire letters. I think that's quite a few years down the road. |

They were a thing back in the 60's w the G70 raised white letter tires, but have since fallen out of favor IMO except for dedicated race cars. |

Well, how about the new Pirelli PZero Colour Edition?
http://color.pirelli.com/en-gb/? Although there is no model of BMW that's on the target car list at the moment, you can sign-up to be notified if and when they appear for other sizes. The site says only for 19" but the pull-down menu includes other sizes. They also announced availability for the Winter Sottozero. Looks like this is a painted-on technique, not a dyeing mechanism. Old-fashioned white wall tyres (still available for Rolls Royce, apparently) were made by adding white pigment instead of carbon black (raw rubber compound isn't black). This meant that the colour went right through the fabric of the sidewall rubber. However, it's very expensive, as you have to have a completely separate manufacturing line for the white rubber build. Pirelli claim that their tech uses some form of painting-on technique, á la their F1 tyres, and includes some form of treatment that protects the coloured sidewall. Ummmm - I wonder how long it'll stay fresh? And I wonder whether you'll be able to retro-paint / refresh existing tyres?

If you're not sponsored or getting free tires from said company, why would you plaster their name like a moving advertisement on your clean bimmer?
Don't get me wrong, I think it looks cool out on the track if you're a pro... But on your car that you're using to pick up groceries from Ralphs? Eh... |

File these right alongside the tires that are scented so you get a lavender burnout (i.e. file under totally useless affectations). If you are running full race rubber, it's cool, but if you have to stick them on (or order off the 'color wheel') then I think they kind of ruin the vibe. Unless, of course, you just stick a whole bunch of M-logos on them - then it would be super super cool.
And am I the only person PO'd b.c their 'configurator' doesn't have a BMW option? I'm dying to see what blue stripes look like on a blue M2. |
