Remove engine cover for better cooling?

'08 E93, always hot here in Texas. Will the engine run cooler if I remove the engine cover?
Any other downsides like noise or accumulated dirt?

I don't think it will make any measurable difference. Don't worry about it unless the car is overheating all the time. And if it is overheating all the time, something is probably broken.

It's not going to make any difference that matters.

I know that on a 335i, removing the cover is bad.

It protects the engine from water which can mess up your ignition coils. I saw a video on that once.

Talking about the top cover that goes over the valve cover or the plastic shield on the bottom?

I removed the one on the bottom because I like to know when a vehicle is leaking. Plus my GF managed to hit something and rip half of it off anyway.

I noted the same cooler running temps when set to sport too. Going to test out track mode this summer.

So I'm still trying to pin this down.

It probably does but by how much is the question. If you have over heating problems then taking the cover off will be laughable to "fix" it.

LOL! ^

Engine cover has no affect on the air the engine sucks in which is more of a heating/cooling factor than a piece of plastic.

That's better. At most it's a couple degree difference. The reason I do it is for easy, quick access to the plugs and coils.

I run without the rear plastic top of engine cover, and without the plastic catch tray underneath. Oil temperatures dropped 8-10*F, and underhood temps dropped 18-25*F.

Without the Cowl cover, these temps drop even lower, but I normally run with it on.
