Service Intervals - AUS
To the Australian M2 contingent - I realise there is condition-based servicing with the M2, but are the oil service intervals any shorter than for regular 2 series? And is there a first or run-in service and at how many km?
Thx

There is a 2000km run in service where engine & diff oil is changed.
I'm not sure what the service intervals are for the regular 2 series but my next scheduled oil change is something stupid like 18 months or 25,000kms from the initial service. I have 5 years free servicing but no way I'm waiting that long to change the oil so I'll pay for an interim oil change before then. |

Thanks - yes my M135i only wants official oil services every 25-30k so much the same. Plugs and all filters get done every second so thinking that would probably fall within the 5 year period with the M2 service pack. I similarly do interim changes.

I used to do interim changes on my 135 and intend doing the same with the M2. I do it myself. Always used to do oil and filter but what are people's thoughts on just doing the oil and leaving the filter for every second change?

The fellow that looks after my RS Clio and who builds engines suggests to always change the filter. When he uses a higher performance oil in it, he even recommends a filter change at 6 months even when keeping the oil for 12. Given the cost of the filter is relatively small, I'd always do both together.

I've just had an order confirmation for my car and on that it specifies the oil service interval as being 2 years/30,000km

All the M cars I've had (and I've had more quite a few over the years) came with the 2000km servicing for free, including very recently with F80 and F82 M3/4. So I can't see why that would be different for M2.

I've heard varying amounts for the 5/80 service package, from $1500 to $2150 - how much were they quoting? My M135i servicing for that period was just shy of $2600 4 Vehicle Inspections (annual) including microfilter 1 Brake fluid service (3-yearly) 1st oil service - oil/filter 2nd oil service - oil/fliter/plugs/air filter -

My F25 LCI X3 20d (B4720D) had stupid condition-based service, engine oil + filter replaced every 2 years (I did an extra oil service out of my own pocket), now that it's been sold I don't really care.
For the M2, I will replace oil (8 bottles of M TwinPower Turbo 0w-40 + filter) at least once every 12 months, I'll do extra if I drive hard or go to track days. BTW: I take the F87 M2 to my trusted mechanic friend's workshop only, no plan to go back to any dealership. I can pay an extra A$100 to write every service record back to the car computer (somehow you can remotely login to BMW servers with others' account to write the records). Not just because I don't trust the dealership services, but also about get to know more about the car (I watch my friend servicing the car, sometimes help him do it just because I am interested in doing so). I think it's better care than what I can get from the dealer.

2000km break-in run in service is free for the M2 (also for my previous X3).

I am pretty sure the running-in service (2000km) is free.

Same question, oil filter is cheap, but original M TwiPower Turbo 0w-04 only comes in 1L bottle, which is A$33 each. I wouldn't say 8*33+25=289 plus labour cheap... ;-(

OEM oil by BMW.
It is all relative. Car has free servicing so spending (from memory) 280 extra for oil changes seems ok to me. Or, put another way, $280 vs $35k for a new engine if it goes wrong... When almost half of the car's lifetime mileage is on track (or to the track) I think it is totally justified. Probably not worth it if just daily use, but for me it is not my daily driver. |

Muffy and Terry did you purchase the Service Pack as I just had my 2000km service and was charged. I even told them I thought it was free and was told no!
