Consensus on first oil change?

My car is quickly reaching the 7k mile mark, and I am worried that waiting until the bmw scheduled maintenence at 12k miles. Am I being too cautious or should I be looking to change my oil soon?

12k? My first oil chance was at like 8k miles because I hit the year mark before 10k miles. But it seems that oil changes are based on tighter schedules? my second change was at 17k miles.

Idrive tells me it's at 12k, and there's a good chance that I'll be near that mark before my year's up (bought in June) as I have a lot of driving coming up.

Note: the one year is from the date of manufacture not the date of purchase.

On startup it should give a date as well as mileage. You can also check the date in the idrive maintenance menu.

First paid is 8k miles give or take. It should also contact your dealer remotely and let them know your approaching oil time.
