Early pothole thread!

Well, it's not even winter and on my way to work this am I hit a giant pothole on 287. Bent my rim and got a bubble in my tire.

It's gonna be a looong season.

Also as the FYI: 287 going east.. probably between exit 9A and 10 or 11... GIANT pothole in the middle lane. Heads up and safe travels.

thats sad, thanks for sharing.
you should report the pothole on DOT site, at least it may get repaired.

take a picture and submit a claim for reimbursement. I manged to get a settlement of $200 back out of a $1000 repair last year. Worth filling out a form and writing up a short explanation of what happened. Take a picture of the pothole and have tow receipts handy.

Edit: Also, as someone replied to my original comment, try to get a police report. Call state police if it is a state road. I called Nassau county police and they refused to write a report and told me good luck. I imagine it was because I hit a pothole on a state road. Lack of a police report was probably why I was forced to settle for such low amount.

Another point is that the state will not pay out during "pothole" season. You should still file a claim to hopefully settle with even a partial reimbursement.

Piggy backing this.

If you hit a pothole on a public road, and it causes damage, DO NOT just drive home or get a tow without calling the local police department and getting an incident report. NJ (at least) is super anal about paying Jack without a police report confirming the incident happened at that location the pictures were taken.

Damn that blows. I've been pretty lucky on all my roads so far.

Good luck to you!

What kills me is that the potholes from last year never even get fixed. Sometimes they throw a crappy patch on which a plow rips off and makes an even bigger hole.
