Obviously, acquisition costs were not a concern in their comparisons.

Read this about Tesla stock
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/08/29...ader.html?_r=0

Friend had a Tesla for a few months, purchased used, and sold it when he learned of greater capacity batteries being offered. Point being the car ages poorly in that respect.
After one year of ownership of 235, I'm more impressed by the car as I rack up the miles.

No love for the 228i? What is it that qualifies a car to be tested for this list?

I was invited to test drive the Tesla Model S at the Pebble Beach Concours event a few weeks ago and was blown away with everything about the car. Acceleration, feel, handling, - perfect.
If I ever overcome my fetish for ragtops, it'd be high on my list.

We understand that, properly equipped (Track Handling Package), it's the same car, just a tad slower. You can share in the joy!

These are just the top scorers among all cars CR tests all year long...the list forms itself.

Agreed. If CR was the one paying for my ride, it's possible I may have selected a different vehicle...

I'd be in a Porsche with a lower score but most likely a bigger smile

C'mon. This is Consumer Reports: the company that doesn't think products exist west of the Mississippi, that has long considered American products deficient to imports (it's fan-dom of Tesla is a partial knee-jerk response to that, I'm certain), that thinks Jeeps and Suzuki Samurais are the devil's spawn, and that is now so scared of saying bad things about pretty much any product that its reviews are practically indiscernable from one another ...

... that said, at least it tests with some semblance of scientific approach. Can't say that about most other competitors these days ...

It's their Levi's interface between posterior and heated seats that makes the difference.

LOL so true....I will say that when I told my father I was buying an M235i, I showed him many glowing reviews from print magazines and online, and it was the Consumer Reports review that really impressed him and sold him on my decision!

Agreed, my 991 S is the best car for smiling ear to ear! Teslas are incredible cars, but no Porsche with 3.8 singing behind you.

In other words, #1 among gas vehicles in this test.

If money were no object, I could happily own one model for the rest of my life and that would be a Porsche 911. Perfect everyday and weekend car (I have no kids and don't want them!). However at $140k+ for the one I'd build, that will take some time.

Of course a 911 would be a better car, but Porsche really makes you pay through the nose, the back seat and frunk aren't super usable as a DD. It's the #1 second car to have. The M235i in my opinion is one of the best if not the best DD / sporty car around at that price point.

All other cars in the segment are lacking.

Exactly. My neighbors own 3 cars; a BMW 3-series, a new Toyota Land Cruiser (they have 2 little kids) and a new Porsche Carrera S. The Toyota hauls the kids. The Bimmer goes to work and the Porsche is for fun.

I'm sorry but that's like saying. Someone bought a 228i then realized there was a M235i that had a bigger gas tank.

I think it's great Tesla (for now) is regularly improving their cars and not waiting 7 years to do it. Most of them are free software upgrades and anything else they upgrade is typically offered to owners at a discounted rate.
