Hill-Start Assist
Does the 2015 228i have hill-start assist? I read somewhere that it does, but when I asked my dealer he said it didn't come with it.. Can anyone confirm?
(If it does come with, is it a permanent hold or just a brief hold?) Cheers! |

I own a 2015 228i with ZF8 AT. It has the hill-start assist that holds the car for 2 seconds.
However I live in France so I can't speak for US model. |

Well the 8AT creeps when engaged anyway so id think it would be hard to roll even without hill assist. As far as I'm aware its a universally standard feature in all markets. My 11 R56 Cooper D manual had it as standard so its a pretty safe assumption. Keeps brake pressure for around 2 seconds to let you pull away safely. Activation parameters are along the lines of incline severity and the pressure with which the foot brake is applied.

Think the OP is referring to the manual car

Why are people with the AT even answering? Or, maybe it's a joke. If so...kind of funny.
Yeah my 135i did....a great feature. It was 3 seconds or so. Helpful!

Thanks guys! Yea sorry if I wasn't clear - I was referring to a 6speed MT 228i. I was a little curious since I was testing it the other day and it worked sometimes, but othertimes it would immediately start rolling back as soon as I let off the brake.. Wasn't sure if it had anything to do with the slope of the hills I was on

I had the same question. I have an M235i 6MT. The owners manual doesn't say much but here's what you have to do:
On a hill, brake and clutch in. Put it in 1st gear. If you lift off the brake but keep the clutch in, you'll feel the brake pedal become stiffer. That means the hill assist is working. You then have two seconds to get going. Hill assist turns off the instant you touch the gas, so if you're quickly going from brake to gas, then you're going to think that hill assist doesn't work. |

Hill-start assist is not that obvious for AT anyway, because as stated by allthatisntnow, the transmission is always engaged. Except if auto stop & start is active. But S&S is working so bad (sort of Stop and Stall in fact) that most drivers disable it. |

Maybe because plenty of autos actually come with hill start assist. Its not a manual exclusive innovation. Plus it wasn't specified in op.

I've found that the system in my m235i actually holds some pressure on the brakes even as you get going. This is different than my 2011 WRX, which immediately released all brake pressure upon touching the gas or releasing the clutch.
I liked the subaru system better, but now that I've had it in my last two cars I can say that it's a great feature in any form. |
