Floaty feeling around corners
Does anyone else feel like the rear end floats around a corner when taking it a little tight? I usually feel this on tight quick turns when going right. It is as if the rear end is on ice or something. For reference, I do NOT have the LSD option. Is this why?
Just bugs me a bit, haha. Thanks! |

Keep some throttle on to help plant the rear end. You can breath off the throttle just before turning into the corner then use the throttle to maintain the set of the car going around and through the corner. Even works with my old pickup truck.

It's called "drifting"....lol If you're in 2nd gear with high RPM and countering your wheel a bit, you may be doing a little drift. Usually easier to do on the right turn.

It's called "oversteer", OP. This is because you have a very well balanced vehicle & you can feel when the rear is stepping out. The car is rotating a little to get around the corner and you probably only feel it when going right because you're on the outside of the car.. rather then going left & you being on the inside - the effects are a little less apparent then.
If you push a little harder around the same corner & take DSC off.. I'd bet you'd get some pretty decent slides. Put it in Sport+ and the computer lets the rear end step out a little bit before it reels you back in. I recommend going to a track session to really get a feel for the car in a more responsible way though. |

Dinan Shockware suspension tune has enabled me to feel more planted when cornering but I still don't fully "trust" the car's cornering anywhere close to the edge, partly because of the variable steering settings. It probably pushes (understeers) when driven hard into a corner. I would like it to feel a little looser but I think it's just the character of the car.

Yes, I maintain some throttle input in fast sweeping corners to sustain traction in the rear wheels but I will lift as soon as I feel the car pushing to the outside of the corner. I think I would have to be very aggressive in order to get the car even a little sideways. I really like my Twofer but if I wanted a tail happy car this ain't it.

I personally feel quite planted when cornering at some 3/4 (of course modulating the throttle - never off !!!). However, I do have another related complaint about my M235i tail behavior: sometimes the infamous throttle lag occurs just when I'm in need of accelerating fully (like during take-over another car or a group of cars); after this hesitation moment the car is catapulted and - if it so happens the rear wheel(s) is/are on a less than full grip patch of the road (like when driving in the rain) - I lose the grip momentarily. From my previous experience with the RWD E46, this should just wake DSC up and - with one or two DSC light blinks, and o short moment of limited torque output - I should continue acceleration. But with this car, which has LSD installed, circumstances like I describe cause a much less pleasant feel of the tail not being quite planted - exactly the opposite of what I was hoping from when deciding to buy the LSD in the first place. I have no previous experience with LSD in an RWD car whatsoever, so my question to those more experienced: is it normal? Or should I try again to describe the situation better in my poor English for you to be able to answer my question

The VSS has to do with effecting the steering ratio at low speeds when parking, it should not have any impact on what you're talking about.

it is not turbo lag. It is the auto trans thinking for a long time about which gear to engage. It is the longest 1.5 seconds you will ever experience, with total shutoff of the throttle as the trans gets its shit together. Once the gear engages, the car is indeed catapulted with ferocious torque, unsettling the rear end.

Thanks @Funky for helping me with my poor English, but to be honest I didn't mean auto trans "thinking time", either (this kind of throttle lag happens also in Manual mode, when the gear is already there and fixed). It's just throttle lag, hesitation, tip-in - these are the names it's been given over all of the F generation fora... The rest of your description is spot-on, though; now imagine it happens when bypassing a truck on a narrow road. Any "unsettling" of the rear can be a bit scary under such circumstances!
