Training / Service Fee?

My CA printed out a sheet with both MSRP and invoice (wholesale) pricing for my build options. I noticed that at the bottom under the Destination Charge was a line item for Training / Service Fee. It was indicated as N/C under MSRP and $180 under wholesale.

Any idea what this may be or what it includes or covers?

Sounds to me like it's EDP - Extra Dealer Profit.

i got a similar sheet from a bmw dealer, i believe MACO and training fee is regional fee added to invoice price for dealer but not calculated for MSRP since MSRP is already a markup

Remember the airline extra fuel charges of old well this looks to be the same just different wording so don't let BMW America start this other wise all the greedy dealers will want a slice of this cake. Just ask them to justify the cost and when will I get my half days car training.

The training fee is added to the invoice by BMW, same way MACO (MArketing COop) fees would be if the dealer is in a MACO agreement area. It's not negotiable. It covers the cost of BMWNA training the dealer, not the customer receiving some training. It's not a new fee, it's been around for a long time. It doesn't show up on ED cars.

The problem is that everyone uses the term "invoice price" to refer to the wholesale price lists. Training fees and MACO fees have no MSRP equivalent, so they don't show up on some car pricing sites. They do, however, exist on the invoice that the dealer gets from BMWNA. You can see that on the clip below from the wholesale VIR that the dealers can access.

If you're negotiating a price as "$xxxx above invoice", it's fair and reasonable for the dealer to include it on your side of the line, because it's on his invoice.

Yeah it's in there on every invoice, along with MACO and you can't really fight those.

You can be more wary about the other fees such as document handling which is dealer based, and if leasing the bank fee which is often marked up from $795.

You have the right to try and haggle another $180 off the price but ultimately they tend to have a certain amount of room based on statistical experience from people on these forums, and if you can get down to around $500 over invoice (which includes those fees) you are still doing pretty good and better than the average buyer.

My invoice includes neither of these fees. The only fee is the destination charge and doc fee.

The doc fee is from the dealer, not BMW - it should not show up on your invoice.

Well, it shows up on his invoice. It doesn't show up on the dealer's invoice.
