Smile Coding active sound of M4 and other models into M135i / M235i

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Guys on the german forums managed to use coding to activate an M4 sound in the M135i. Should work in an M235i as well. Pretty cool but it will probably get tiring quickly.

Link to the german forum has a lengthy discussion on coding. Its not clear what sound system you need. Hope the coders here can figure it out.

Holy shit... Is there anyone else besides me who thinks this is actually cool and would want this? I know some people have complained about the S55's "noise", but I actually like how this sounds.

Scratch that. Someone should record the soundtrack of the old E46 M3's intake and that signature, US-only, exhaust rasp. I don't care if you call me a poser. Put that soundtrack in my car, and it will truly be heaven.

I thought active sound was created my microphones on the engine? Are they really just recordings being played in out cars?

Some guys with Hifi have not been able to get this to work. Probably more related to coding it properly. If you don't get any sound at all after the coding just unplug and reconnect ASD in trunk (switch off car completely and wait 20 sec. before reconnecting). These are instructions from Lowi who also posted the video.

Also, one guy claims you can change the volume of the ASD. Would be great if you could select all that in a menu. Like in the Renault Clio. Silly but probably the future .

Why would anyone want the sound of another car in their own, if you want more sound out of your car or a different sound either buy the car that makes the sound you want or get a new exhaust

This is why to completely turn off ActiveSound on the M235i you have to configure to something that is not an active model (i.e. not F020/F021).

Not for me...but logically I can see somebody doing this to increase the enjoyment of their ride which is much cheaper than your two suggestions.

Preset recordings based on RPMs, there are no mics on our engines.

After riding in a new M3 I find the active sound in that car a bit intense. Would be funny to code an oil burner sound to our cars.

Too bad Active Sound hasn't existed for the last couple of decades or it'd probably be possible to play the sound of the S70/2 engine found in the McLaren F1 through the sound system of an i3.
