DIY: Removing Sunvisor Decals
I can't stand looking at the unsightly Sunvisor Warning Decals so I thought I would create a little how-to for others showing what I feel is the easiest way to remove them. (WARNING: Remove OEM warning stickers and mattress labels at your own risk. Death, injury and hefty fines may result.)
Items needed: -91% Isopropal Alcohol (70% is not strong enough) -Small sponge -Plastic pry tool -T20 Torx driver 1. Using pry tool carefully unsnap the hinged screw cover. ![]() 2. Remove screw with Torx driver ![]() 3. The hinge is now loose but must be rotated forward and pulled out of the rectangular mounting hole. Note electrical connector that is snapped into the side of the hinge. ![]() 4. Pull the electrical connector free from the hinge. Now unsnap the two halves of the connector and remove the visor from the car. ![]() 5. Soak the sponge in the alcohol and soak the decal. Be patient. Keep it wet. You can even walk away for a couple minutes if you desire. After 3-5 minutes the decal will start to shrink and loosen. ![]() 6. Scratch a corner loose with your fingernail and start to slowly pull upwards. Keep soaking the decal as you pull. Work slowly, the goal is to pull the decal off in one piece. It will all pull off in about 1-2 minutes. ![]() ![]() 7. You will end up with the entire sticker shriveled up in one piece with no residue left on the visor. ![]() 8. Much better! ![]()

Nice DIY
Done in 5 minutes. You're tip on the stronger alcohol concentration is the key, I think. Didn't even know it came in more than one strength. I wonder, will this tip work with alcantra covered visors like in the X4?

No, never have seen this. Been successfully using this procedure for well over 10 years.

Thanks for posting, pics and all very easy laid out process....looks simple and I too hate those warning stickers... Got everything apart... almost.
Step 4 has confounded me.. I cannot figure how and where to pry or where they come apart/unhook....perhaps poor eyes, but can't figure it out.. don't want to break it as it seams at least over engineered to be difficult, lol. any suggestions would be helpful! |

To split the small connector from the large connector I inserted an Xacto knife down the side of the small connector and into the large connector only about 1/8" then simply pried outward to pull the small connector out. It takes some force but it will separate and does not break. It needs some force to overcome the internal barb. You could try a tiny jewelers screwdriver, too. It just needs to be very thin.

This is a great post, thanks for the detailed process and photos. Works like a champ. My label didn't actual shrivel or anything, after 5 or so minutes I just started gently rubbing one corner with fingertip, it started rolling up with no issue.

Step 4... Granted I am an idiot, I cannot figure out how to "unsnap the connector"... Can't even find a pic of what each sde looks like. Why on god's earch would someone make a cnnector so complex? Seems rediculous.
Have tried gently pulling, wiggling, even tried an exacto knife tip, (which broke the point off btw). I almost just cut the wires... While I understand my place in the world, this stupid connector and the annoying stickers will not beat me! Help?

^^^ Hang in there! You can do it. IIRC the female half if the connector, the larger side, stays with the sun visor once removed. While holding the connector I inserted the blade into the flatter side of the connector. Insert the blade the tiniest amount. (I think you inserted it too far which just wedges things tighter) just "prick" the connector and it will pull out.
You're so close! Just use patience. You'll laugh once you see how simple it really is.

Thanks. This worked for me. Took a few extra minutes on one side though.
The connector was pretty easy. Thin flat head worked to separate the pieces. I should have taken a pic to remember where exactly I disconnected. Last edited by b_ack51; 05-16-2015 at 06:08 PM.. |

Do you suppose if I did this while I am still on my Euro Delivery trip that the port would "fix" it before re-delivery?
![]() This was the second mod I did to my 328i wagon upon re-delivery. 15 minutes after I got it home. The very first was the ZHP shiftknob, which I did while the car was still on the turntable at BMW Welt!

Did this last evening, there was some initial shadowing but that was because the sticker didn't come off very cleanly and left some residue behind. I found regular old acetone (not nail polish remover) quickly removed the residue left behind without much fuss.
Thanks for posting this up! ![]() |
