JB4 install guide
I haven’t been around here long, but I did do some research before posting this.
Although Burger Motorsports do have an JB4 install guide on their website, it could be more specific to the 235 (pneumatic versus electronic solenoid, A or B harness for TMAP, etc. ). Does anyone know if a 235 specific and complete JB4 Stage 2 install guide, which includes the EWG and FF harnesses (also possibly the USB cable routed into the glove box), exists? BTW, one would also think that OEM type in-line connectors could be cleanly spliced into the car’s wires instead of the obviously superficially retrofitted quick connectors (ex: CAN wires) for rapid and neat unplugging/plugging, for JB4 removal before/after routine maintenance. |

I never found anything specific to the M235i and took my time reviewing and asking Burger questions before I attempted the install.
Personally I think Burger would sell a few more of these if model specific installation videos were made and it would cut down on the questions they field. In the end the instructions will make sense, hook up two harnesses, Your ground and power cables, and your two wires you tap into your can wires with. You will be saying piece of cake afterwards but yes I do feel where your coming from right now. and yep, an improved can wire tap would be nice. Really seems to be a main reason why some choose a competitive product.

I just installed mine, here are some parts that got me stumped.
The Tmaps are easy, just lay out the cables, one sits by the charge pipe, the other is toward the top of the engine. The CAN, when you pull out the wires, there are two red wires. The correct one is the one twisted with the blue/yellow. NOT the stand alone red one. You will not need the blue wired connect, just tape it up and put away. +/- wires you should know where that goes. For the unit, I used Velcro and placed it on top of the fuse box, the cover will fit. Btw..this is for the stage 2 jb4, and order the usb connector, apparently there's no easy way to tell what map you are on without hooking it up to JB4. |

To OP, directions are the same as the F30. There is no USB routing for the F series just run it in the door jamb when needed. The FF and EWG are add on parts that have their own specific guides. Mike |

Mike do you have the ewg install guide? Not where it's plugged, but where the wires go, pictures if possible. |

Agreed if there was a detailed F22 guide, and/or video. I would probably have already bought one Although this video is a good start, that look's legit. It's way easier than I thought.
Where are you grabbing power and ground? If i magically got a JB4 from one of our forum sponsor's on here, I would spend some time making a video to document the install for people.. |

The whole thing is actually pretty easy once you get the harness in and laid out, especially if you don't do the FF and EWG wires. If you basically lay the harness over the top of the engine, each plug pretty much falls right where you plug it in.
If you add the FF and EWG wires, it adds a little complication. You need to add the wires to the harness first. I recommend sitting down and taking your time with this step, ideally with some additional tubing, etc so clean up everything once you get it hooked in. The hardest part then is really just getting to the EWG plug.

Ok, just installed the BMS Stage 1 and everything looks good but I just want to be sure you aren't supposed to connect the red/black power/ground wires by the battery?
Instructions say that only the rainbow and brown connectors are used and all other connectors and wires should be tucked away however it doesn't seem like the unit would get power this way (unless it can feed off of the power from the TMAP). Please confirm, thanks! |
