Curious...how many of you guys/girls have had a bad low brake pad warning sensor

I am on my second one in 14K miles. Not good. Since I upgraded to Alcon brakes afterwards...and this happened BEFORE I had Alcons...I will go ballistic if they pull the "your aftermarket brakes caused this...we cannot cover sensors under warranty" game.

How the hell can they go "bad"? Last time I checked (prior to e9x), the pad wear sensor was just a wire across a plastic puck -- pads wear down, wire wears through, the open circuit triggers a warning.

Have these changed? Are you getting funk in the connectors or something?

I dunno..havent got the car back..on the Audis I owned..its just a connection by wire to a place where if the pad gets down to a certain point..an electrically connection is made..hence the (()) warning light on the dash.

My light JUST came on on my E90 with 31,000 miles on it. Do I need to take this in immediately or can it wait until tomorrow morning?

If you're not seeing any of the other signs of brake pad wear you're fine for a while still.

Strangely enough, we managed to completely kill the front pads and start in on the backing plates on our E46 without ever seeing a brake warning. Maybe they're overcompensating now?

Tomorrow is fine...if it is the "brake" red light being on when you start and run the car. It should show the car on the jack warning light as well when you first start the car.

do you track your car? I have almost 50K and the back brake indicates 22K left before service and front indicates 17K left before service. I ran my finger on the back disk and I can hardly feel a lip. On the front I can feel a tiny lip forming at the outter edge. I have manual car and I must not brake that often.

Yes, onboard computer where you can also check for oil service and other service indications.

Severed line for me. Warranty doesn't cover this. How the hell does a sensor get severed?

My rears were just replaced at 36000 (sensor read 5000 miles left)... They still had plenty of material left on them, but the dealer did them early as a courtesy... They were right on the borderline of being too thick.

My fronts still have a lot of material on them and the indicator has read 11000 miles left for the last year now. I'm hoping I can burn through them before I hit 50000 miles. My SA gave me a little tip: At 49000 miles, bring the car in and claim the front brakes are squealing. More than likely they'd do a brake job at that point because it's so close.

I'm actually pretty impressed with how long my e90 brakes have lasted.. I was always under the assumption thnat European cars wet through brakes a lot faster than Japanese cars.

That's how the crappy one works, BMW have switched to a progressive resistor wear type thing. It wears down along with the pads so you get a mileage till they need changed instead of just your pads are good or need to be changed type sensor.

Dang mine went off recently by error, but i still only had 10k left w/ 9k on the odo, how are you lasting 70k on a set of pads.

Oh please tell me, it would be a huge pain in the butt to go in for service for me, but the brake warning is still annoying.

A friend was saying to leave it in the ignition 1 position for 30 seconds then start it but that didn't work (nor did leaving it at ignition 2 then starting it).
