M235i (F22) Cruise Control with Brake retrofit - parts etc.
I'm going to be attempting to retrofit Cruise Control with Brake into my new M235i over the next couple of weeks (will be sure to post a how-to guide once I've done it for anyone else who wants to do it).
I'm all set with E-Sys ready to code the required feature options through the VO, however, I'm just a little stuck on which part number to order for the new steering switches. The list of available switch options can be found here: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...92&hg=61&fg=35 My two options are... Option 1: Part No. 61317849411 - From 03/2014, includes LIM button Option 2: Part No. 61317849406 - Up to 03/2014, includes SET button I'm fairly confident I need to go for Option 1, as my car is very new (only registered in the last few weeks), so the build date should have certainly been after 03/2014, plus it already has the LIM function at present. I just wanted to check for sure though. If anyone could shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it! |

Interesting, so cruise is not standard in the UK like it is here in the colonies. It is a great system but it sorta weird when using it to feel your cars brakes apply themselves on downhills.

Put your VIN in here and it should tell you the build date.

Hi guys, newbie here, I come from a Camaro and that one had cruise controls on the steering but my M235 does not have any of does, only the LIM button, will it work as cruise control? also when going on ECO PRO it felt like it will hold the average speed I'm going. thanks! |

So looks as though I've located the part number I need, and it was indeed Option 1:
Part No. 61317849411 - From 03/2014, includes LIM button Going to be ordering at the end of this month, with a view to fitting early November! Will be sure to post a guide when I do, as originally said. Anyone have any advice/instructions on dismantling the steering wheel? I'm fully up to speed with the E-Sys coding side of things, just the initial airbag removal concerns me a little at the moment! Doesn't seem to be much logic to it as far as I can see! |

In the end, I managed to get hold of the parts sooner than expected, and completed the installation yesterday!
I've posted a full how-to guide in my progress thread, here - http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=20 Installation took around 2 hours, and my car is now sporting the fully operational Cruise Control with Brake function! If anyone has any questions, will be happy to help! Just let me know! |

Seems my local so called BMW experts M3BMW of Bathgate are unable to do this. A mod that can be DIY, but they cant do it. And were also very rude when I tried to point them to your blog. Talking over me on the phone "Nope, Nope, Nope, Bye" then hung up. Unbelievable. I guess I will be attempting myself. Just need to find someone capable of coding it. Obviously M3BMW of Bathgate aren't. |

In all fairness, I was told repeatedly by BMW when I first started investigating this that it, and I quote, "physically couldn't be done". I was extremely pleased to be able to prove them wrong! Since completing my Cruise Control retrofit I've completed a fair few more coding jobs for people, so if you need a hand just direct message me and we can get something sorted. |

Anyway I think I can get the part online for around £220 so once I get that I may be in contact again regarding coding. Would love to take you up on your offer of help though the Glasgow - Tonbridge Wells round trip may be a bit of a hike. :-) |

£220.00 sounds very very steep indeed for parts - I got mine for under £70.00 all in, from Cotswold BMW dealer group. On the coding front, don't worry about the distance - as long as you got hold of the correct OBD cable, I could connect over to you via VPN, and complete the job remotely thanks to the modern day marvel that is the Internet! Send me a private message if you want to have more of a chat about things! |

Hey all,
Looks like I'm a bit late for Iain's case, but I am selling my 100% working, tested, and like new B61.31.7.849.411 BMW Multi-function Switch (needed for both LIM and Cruise Control w/Braking). First of all, let me thank KurtCrisco for the very helpful advice on this thread. His post is one of the only places on the web to document this retrofit process with photos, etc. so kudos to you! Though my vehicle is an F20, this process was identical between 1 and 2 Series, and a quick check of the part number shows this 'unofficial' retrofit part fits the entire list of vehicles below (provided they have an M-Sport steering wheel) and even supersedes the part number specified for 'Up to 03/2014' vehicles: 1' F20 (07/2010 — 02/2015) 1' F20 LCI (05/2014 — 03/2016) 1' F21 (07/2010 — 02/2015) 1' F21 LCI (05/2014 — 03/2016) 2' F22 (10/2012 — 03/2016) 2' F23 (03/2014 — 03/2016) 2' F45 Active Tourer (11/2013 — 03/2016) 2' F46 Gran Tourer (07/2014 — 03/2016) 3' F30 (03/2011 — 07/2015) 3' F30 LCI (09/2014 — 03/2016) 3' F31 (07/2011 — 07/2015) 3' F31 LCI (09/2014 — 03/2016) 3' F34 GT (07/2012 — 03/2016) 4' F32 (11/2012 — 03/2016) 4' F33 (03/2013 — 03/2016) 4' F36 (07/2013 — 03/2016) 5' F07 GT LCI (08/2012 — 03/2016) 5' F10 LCI (08/2012 — 03/2016) 5' F11 LCI (08/2012 — 03/2016) 6' F06 GC (05/2011 — 03/2015) 6' F06 GC LCI (05/2014 — 03/2016) 6' F12 (10/2009 — 02/2015) 6' F12 LCI (05/2014 — 03/2016) 6' F13 (04/2010 — 02/2015) 6' F13 LCI (05/2014 — 03/2016) X1 F48 (11/2014 — 03/2016) X5 F15 (08/2012 — 03/2016) X6 F16 (09/2013 — 03/2016) I had 100% success in installing the switch and VO coding the car, and it's been working flawlessly for a little under a year now. Our F20 is a company car (thus the reason it came without cruise control) and it's due to be turned in under the company hire agreement on 15-July-16. As such, I will be removing the switch next week and selling it on at a SUBSTANTIAL DISCOUNT. The switch is in perfect working order, and the various plastic surfaces and buttons have absolutely no signs of wear. The switch comes with original box, packaging, and official BMW invoice from BMW Nine Elms in London. Original Price: £197.84 DISCOUNT: 25% Asking £150.00 + Free P&P (within UK) Of course, coding services and installation are available at an additional cost for buyers located in Central London. PM me, or you can email SW7guy@gmail.com |

Any chance you could document the step by step process for coding this. Although I fitted the part 2 weeks ago I have still to code (going to download the s/w to a new laptop I shall be buying this week). A total newbie to the coding process I have been reading the few online documents but would like a succinct document for this process only, a sort of dummies guide. (Not really a dummy, have been in IT for more years than I care to remember but am always super cautious, especially when it comes to a £25k motor). Please :-) cheers Iain |
