Potential Fuel Pump going..

Hi Guys - had a quick question regarding the fuel pump recall.

I threw a fuel pump code yesterday which said something of being a potential pump thats starting to fail?I cleared the code and havent had it since. But i was curious about whether or not I would have to remove all my bolt-ons to bring the car in to BMW for the recall eventually.

I realize every dealer is different and for the turbo/wastegate recall you absolutely need to remove DPs, filters, etc. Either way, the tune would go back to stock, but i wasnt sure if dealers would deem the failure to come from upgraded components

Its probably better to air on the side of cautiousness and remove everything anyways, but any feedback would be helpful!

thanks

I *believe* the HPFP is a recall - not a warranty item. I'd be surprised if they refused to do the work since you aren't really making a warranty claim, merely taking advantage of an existing TSB.

thanks for you input, and thats what i beleived as well. I know dealers give you a hard time on the turbo recall regarding aftermarket performance parts though..

Which pump code did you throw? HPFP/LPFP?

From what I understand, the plausibility code (2AAF) is pretty common and does not always require an immediate replacement.

Regarding the mods, you should be alright as long as they can't prove those were the cause of failure.

Totally different scale in terms of hardware cost, and labor. I can see why they aren't in the business of handing out free turbos to people who then turn around and push 18 pounds through them. RE: the turbo recall, I just have no sympathy on that front. You mod your car, you live with the costs.

HPFP was fundamentally defective in design and execution.

thanks guys, and yes it was the 2AAF plausibility code - hasnt come back on since im going to give it a couple days and see what happens. Would that alter timing correction in my data logs? or more likely just bad fuel.

I understand what you are saying concerning the turbo recall as well.

If it's struggling to hold fuel PSI you'd be getting numerous other rail pressure codes and the low pressure pump would likely peg full duty cycle in an attempt to compensate.

Far more likely any timing drops are the result of poor fuel/ lack of octane for the targeted advance.
