Idrive not starting

Does anyone have experience with this?
My Idrive isn't starting and just giving me a bmw logo on the screen and 5 minutes of music before it reboots over and over. None of the radio or phone functions work.
From what I've read on other forums, some people have had this issue fixed by a software updated at a shop. Others have said to just replace the unit. Please advise.

Go to www.bimrs.org to find a reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmers in your area.

I want to avoid going to a shop if I can. The unit is easy to replace, but if someone has successfully fixed this with a software update, I would do that instead.

On some of the idrives, you can reboot it.
I forgot the procedure on my old car, something like hold volume knob while starting or some such, easy enough to google.

You "could" try, putting the car to sleep using ista, pulling the battery for an hour then putting the batt neg back on and trying again

Also try pulling up the program unit for it and restarting it again in ista

Update: I took it to an indie shop that diagnosed a bad receiver. They quoted $1500 to replace it. After hunting for solutions, I found a company in Texas called Bavlogic. They will repair my receiver and send it back to me for $350. I sent it two days ago and hope all works out.

Update II: Got my head unit back one week after sending it to bavlogic. It works as it did before and my settings didn't change.
