I found an appropriate F22 backed 8.8" screen from one of the European eBay sellers. I'm off to install now in my 4/14 build date F22. Will report a second experience.

Five mins tops to make the hardware swap. Coding tomorrow.

The F22 backed screens are available for about $320 shipped.

regular us eBay. I had originally thought about buying a complete NBT swap from seller id: navi_expres. Back and forth emails discussing the coding required on his end the cost went from about $700 for the NBT,screen, and touch iDrive controller to over $1500 for maps, VO coding, etc and I got cold feet as I really did not want nav, just the nicer screen. I asked if they had just an F22 screen. He indicated it might be a few days to get on that he could sell as a stand alone. Via a direct paypal invoice for $320 he'd send one as soon as he had inventory. 10 days later my F22 8.8" screen arrives via express mail.

Re this screen. I'll find out if my 4/14 F22 has HU_ENTRYNAV tonight. If not I'll have an F22 8.8" screen for sale. ;-)

Didn't work unfortunately. After pretty extensive research the head unit did not change in any NA cars until 7/14. F20 or F30. I have the HU_ENTRY rather than HU_ENTRYNAV. I had falied to realize there was an HU_ENTRY as all I had read about was an HU_CHAMP2. Oh well. Now do I simply sell the F22 screen or go through the pain of either an NBT swap or an HU_ENTRYNAV swap...

If it were me just keep the screen. The money is already spent and that way I can continue the rest of the nav swap if I decide to do so in the future.

That's kind of where I am right now. Lots of NBT boxes for sale, several for under $300. My real goal is just the nicer screen, graphics, and things like cover art. Not NAV at all. Might look for an hu_entrynav to swap in.

Ok so I will update my original post to say 07/14 or newer , the 04/14 build date may be for f3x cars or something else , if you have a car made in between 04-07/14 it's all about trial and error at this point 07/14 and newer are confirmed to work though

3/14 is ROW. NA spec is 7/14. F3x or F2x. It's even easier to tell. If your 6.5" display has the red stripes in the imagery you've got hu_entrynav. If it is the beige font almost CIC look you have hu_entry and the wide screen won't work.

If you have a backup camera it won't affect the screen swap/coding at all will it?

Heads up. The new LCI F30 displays are not compatible with this. Part #65509387453
They have a different voltage than the pre-LCI F30 displays.

Edit: Seems like the pre-LCI F30 displays are 7.5-9V while the LCI F30 displays are 12V. I wonder if the new 2017 2 series switched to 12V..

According to my research you are out of luck by one month. NA builds 7/15 and later.

The coding is way easier then it seems you just have to get into the module that controls the screen itself and just change the last part of the entry to read

HU_NBT > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480
HU_NBT > 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display

the bold parts are what actually gets changed

if you need some more help or any other questions let me know!
this is too cool...I may do this as soon as my 230i arrives stateside!
