B58 Engine Seems Very Under Rated !

B58 is another Under Rated Turbo Engine as per this Video, 340i is quite heavy and the guy forgets it in comfort mode for a while , yet it is head to head with our lighter M235i

I don't believe there is a significant weight difference between the two cars (3555 vs 3535) and their power ratings are about the same. So this is what one should predict, no? Not sure what the source of truth is on the weights though as I have seen #'s that vary by as much as 200#'s
cool vid, btw.

If you drive a lot of 35i vehicles, you'll see that the new B58 40i engine not only sounds better, but pulls differently as well. The new 40i 3ers shift, steer, & handle better; they make the 35i feel outdated pretty quickly. If you buy a BMW for the badge, you might not notice a difference though.

I'm excited to see if the 2er gets the B58!

Does the 235 have a JB4? The turn signals seem to be acting as shift lights, which is a feature of the JB4, right?

I would guess not. The turn signal only goes on twice, so if it is acting as a shift light it would mean he's doing 260kph in 3rd gear. The signals also go on once or twice in the 340i, so I assume they're just having to change lanes as they fly past people on the Autobahn. Unlike our neighbors here in Florida, people in Germany actually use turn signals appropriately

I did the BMW driving school in Spartanburg a few weeks ago and we got to drive the 235 and the 340 back to back. I didn't notice a huge difference in the turning capabilities or overall handling, but will say that both cars were fun to drive and that the B58 had some quickness and a good sound. (Though, naturally, the 235 was far more fun to drive - but that may have been due to the activities that were divided between the cars.)

Also, I was under the impression the B58 was coming to the 235 in the 2017 models (SOP around 07/16 or so). Has this changed?

I think any effect felt is purely psychological or very minor. Some magazines noted that the revised suspension / steering actually felt worse than pre LCI. I'm going to hold on until I can get my hands on a RWD M240i, which in this part of the USA might mean not until I order one for myself lol. Even the LCI loaners I'd get around here would be xdrive which steers/handles differently...

Dinan's Tuning Dyno showed that the M235i HP & Torque were also underrated.
M235i Factory rated 320 HP - actual measured 326 HP
M235i Factory rated 330 TRQ - actual measured 379 TRQ

I find it hard to believe that a 340 even the Msport model is going to handle better than a M235i. It would be a nice surprise though.

More precisely, it's 307 WHP and 322 lb-ft (436 Nm) of WTQ.
