M Performance Exhaust 228i (using 328i part)

I saw it somewhere here that it's relatively easy to install the MPE on a 228i.
My question is how hard is it to remove/revert to stock? The reason I'm asking is that I plan on upgrading my car in the next 1-2 years, so not going to keep it for long, but still want to have some fun in the meantime. When I trade in, I would trade in with the stock exhaust. Does anyone know what it takes to revert?

I think the mid pipe on the 228 has a curve near the end where the muffler meets it.

Where as the m235i and mpe has a straight entry.

So to install you would need to cut the curve on your oem 228i mid pipe.

Therefore the only additional part you would need is a new mid pipe.

I have it on mine, its a very easy job... any experienced exhaust shop would be able to fit it, in less than 1hour.

Yep, I understood the install part. What I don't know is how to reverse the install next year :-)

Have you considered something like this? I like the large single oval tip but they do have to cut the factory one. The exhaust shop would be able to weld the factory axleback back on though when you get ready to trade. AWE is working on an exhaust suite but their parts are on the high side. You will get more performance gains with a downpipe and they do change the sound some also.

See this post. The problem is inlet diameter. The solution: have your muffler shop fabricate an adapter that is welded to the MPE, then use clamps to attach the MPE to the midpipe. That way, you can revert to stock without cutting anything; it'd be a simple slip off-slip on operation.

Keep us posted!
