N20 Intakes, What do you have!
Hey guys!
Curious to know what everyones rolling just deciding between Injen or AFE. AWE Ruled out as ive been interested for awhile ive been waiting for the exhaust to get both Exhaust & Intake same time but theyve been taking to long and wanting to purchase the intake itself being told they've run out. Brands like Gruppe M etc don't have anything for N20 that im aware of, out of curiosity Is there anybody else with Carbon ones? |

Intake for N20 are a disadvantage and not improvement
Get a Dry Droo-in filter from AFE or a BMC filter

Proven data that on the N20 engine the intakes provide no performance gain at all infact it will hurt performance. Intakes for N20 are only for cosmetic and sound.
On the N55 is a different story Good luck

There seems to be no performance benefit for an intake without a tune (Stage 2). I am not aware of any such product for the N20 and the likelihood of one for the N26 is even more remote, sadly.

Its power output is very close to that of the N20 but its stricter emissions protocols, plus the laws of several US states in which the N26 and not the N20, is the default engine for the 228i make it unpopular as a tuner platform. I am grateful that there are at least Stage 1 products for the N26 and am very happy with my tuned N26 228's output but I am a little sad that I have no more headroom for tuning this engine without either buying iffy, untested products or making the car street-illegal in California.

Performance improvements aside, how noticeable is the change in sound using the K&N drop in over the stock filter? Can you describe it?

I don't know how I would describe it, more "woosh" as the engine revs. The turbo spool is also louder. Normal driving there is no difference, but when I plant my foot, I can hear the engine "breathing". HTH

The intakes on the n20/n26 don't do anything for performance unless you upgrade your turbo and I'm not 100% on that since I'm not planning on doing so. The sound is pretty great if you have a thing for hearing your turbo spool almost all the time if you're in sport mode lol. I have the injen intake and the "woosh" sound like OpenAir had said above is all I can describe. When the pressure is relieved off the throttle is quite loud as well. It's been on my n20 for at least 4 months and I still can't get enough.

The volume with an aftermarket intake will be MUCH louder than the stock with a better filter...If cosmetics and sound are what you want, then pull the trigger...just don't expect to drop a tenth off your 0-60 times....

2Banger those 10HP 15TQ are at the crank lol which estimates to 0 at the wheels.
The best you can do if you live in heat-soak weather all year long is getting a Cold Air Intake or AFE Dry Drop-in filter or BMC (italian brand). With or without a tune there are no gains on the N20/N26
