Carbon Fiber Shifter

Why do I feel like I'm the only one who got the carbon fiber M Sport shifter as a factory option? Just curious as I find it to be pretty rare and I like it a lot.

I met up with the MPerformance parts manager at the NAIAS at Detroit last week. We talked about the limitation of CF finishes on their shift knobs, both automatic and manual (which is the one I'm chasing). He acknowledged that there could be a business case on their part for a different finish for those who have aluminum and don't want to re-do the entire interior to make it match. For example, compare the CF manual MP knob to this one which only fits the 1 Series....same pattern, likely same tool to stamp out the applique....just need a different material such as aluminum and leather!

That's something I've been thinking about. If I get a 2-series, it will have a manual transmission. I've heard good things about the M-Performance shifter, so I'd very much like to get it. However, I don't really want to spend the $$$ to get the complete carbon fiber interior.

So, what would be the best way to integrate the CF shifter into the interior?

I'm thinking get the CF shifter and parking brake and maybe go brushed aluminum for the other interior bits?

That's exactly what I have and what I considered adding, and then rejected after seeing it in person. It doesn't work for me. I'm waiting for more choices in appearance. The bright white stitching on both the shift boot and brake handle also seem quite out of place.

Getting matching CF brake handle helps blending CF and aluminum look.
As a bonus surprise I really like the feel of the CF brake handle.
It is really soft and smooth to the touch due the Alcantara material instead of the rather hard leather on the stock one.
Here are a couple of pictures with the hexagon aluminum trim.

Damn that looks awesome. I see you're in Plano - that's where I work - did you go to Classic for the parts and installation ?

OP, can you post more pics? This is something I am considering for my car when I order and would love to see how it looks with the fineline trim.

Nice OP....Enjoy it!

I do not like (at all) the hex aluminum trim in my car. Would not have ordered it that way - this was an in stock car when I bought it.

I've always loved CF and had it in both my M3's. Am shopping around for the 5 piece M Performance CF/Alcantra trim kit...

Was also looking at the shifter, but the price value of the shifter is really poor relative to the 5 piece kit.

I think the MT looks better than the ZF with the carbon fiber - it's just so short and sporty looking.

I like the shape, size, weight, and pattern. Just want it in aluminum and leather. Alcantara is a man-made cloth which has cleaning and maintenance needs which make it more demanding than leather. Skin oils from frequent hand contact build up on the fabric.

One on scale of 5.
I can replace shift knob in one minute and brake handle in about 5 minutes or a little more.

I never thought of it that way - but I will only have the car another 18-20 months, so......

I think that looks great. Is it real CF? I had CF shifter, center console, dash and mirrors in my CR interior e92.All from BMW. It was beautiful. Love CF.

Waiting for either a lacquered version off the m2 like my brother did for his 335 with the m3 or waiting for this piece in ceramic to show up on eBay again. I can't stand unlacquered carbon fiber

I like the dry carbon finish very much but not sure I like it with the hex aluminum. The full interior kit is a lot of money for trim pieces.
