Impressive, but just the fact that they fiddle with the internals worries me.This is a complete Redo.

People are so hung up over the wing.

I am not a fan of the wing but speaking to the Tuningwerk folks it provides a lot more down force that the BMW GTS wing. The whole package of the car itself was flawlessly executed and done not only to be functional, but to also pass stringent ‎TÜV vehicles and emissions certifications in Germany. That is one of the main criteria for tuning shops that compete in the yearly Tuner GP held at Hockenheim.

All cars competing have to pass ‎TÜV (Vehicle Inspection) as a road going car due to a lot of parts that tuners use have to be ‎TÜV certified for use on those cars. Emissions have to in compliance also. You fail any of that and you are out of the competition.

I am not a huge fan of the 2 series, but I truly liked what was done to the car and how everything was performed. Everything that was changed, modded updated and such were done to provide better performance and overall reliability to the capabilities of what the car was built to do, a dedicated track car that you can drive from and to the track and even use as a daily driver.

I will be at the Tuner GP and will be doing video when the car is on track. ;-)

They "fiddle" with the internals bc they KNOW that the N55 can only make a reliable 360 PS without doing internal engine damage. This is why every(reputable) tuner in Germany offers "only" a 360 PS tune for the N55. Some will offer up to 380 PS, but the engine will not last very long. Maybe 60K kms. This goes back to the N55 not having forged internal engine components(over the N54).

Same goes(fiddling) with the engine cooling and oil lubrication system. They told me that they found out the M235i can generate such high cornering loads with slicks(+1.5G's) or semi slicks(+2.0G's)... that the oil pan can not keep oil at/around the oil pump pickup area. This in turn leads to oil foaming and loss of the oil "film" on your main bearings. They found this out due to testing. And the N55 will only last maybe ten minutes at the 'Ring or Hockenheim before major engine damage is done. They also told me that they could not simply use the S55's oil pan/pump from the new F8x M3/M4 bc of the 2er's sway bar mounting. So Tuningwerk designed their own oil pan, scraper and oil cooling system to work on Europe's major tracks.

I thought the N55 in these cars has a forged crankshaft, are you sure they replaced it?

I think you have your G's mixed up there.

And even on slicks 2 seems like a lot to me, for that car.

To give you an idea, we race this thing:

And it generates about 1.5 cornering G's.

Was the wide body separate pieces stuck together added on to the stock body panels?

I'll see if I can get some snaps of them when I see the car either this weekend or at the Tuner GP at the end of may.

Tuningwerk is the way of tuning BMW and other cars.
Engeers have a good feedback about safe tuning and more other interesting things.
I recommend this company for tuning and design, specially BMW, they are masters in this brand of cars, they can turn your BMW into a beast.

PPK HD radiator fan and aux water radiator. Different turbo and DME sw to run on 98 to 102 octane pump fuel (available at most German gas stations). And the engine's oil system was totally reworked to work for the high G-forces w/using slicks or semi slicks. The oil pan was a custom piece bc they couldn't use the S55's oil pan bc the front sway bar interferes on the M235i compared to the F8x cars.
6MT transmission, optional ZF 8AT (will add 45Kg's).
BBK brakes
Custom suspension
Reprogrammed EPS steering
245/275 tires on 8.5/10.5 light weight rims (15/16 lbs)
Custom LSD
Special DTC and DSC reprogramming
Over engineering the car's cooling system (water, oil, FMIC)
Custom oil pan to withstand 1.5 to 2G's of corning with use of slicks. Prevents oil foaming now.

And less than 1,500 kilograms (3306 pounds)

This M235i drives so much better than a 1M. This IS what the next M2 should be. Don't take my word for it. I hear through the ///M grapevine that this M235i is 90% of what the next M2 will be like.

I was really blown away by this car. At first it looks like a normal M235i. But the more time you look at it... the more things you spot about it being "different". This car has been put together so cleanly and tastefully. This is a serious track car that works on the street too. I was fortunate to be asked if I wanted a test drive... Hell YES! It drove AMAZING. I was most impressed by its steering response and turn in. And it had EPS steering, but reprogrammed by Tuningwerk. The power and brakes were as expected: great! But the steering is what I really liked about the car.

We will have a full feature article on this car in the future. For now here is a small taste to whet your appetite.

Is that a custom door panel? if not what color was the interior prior to modding? Random observation, just curious
