Replace battery message? (brand new M240i)
I just purchased a 2018 M240i. Granted the car has been on the dealer's lot for a good while, but it was brand new (only 50 miles) when I bought it. I just received delivery of the car, and I was greeted by a "Replace battery" warning.
Is this normal? Or even feasible? Pleas help! |

I don't know about normal (how does a dealer keep the batteries charged on all the cars on the lot?), but feasible...yeah, apparently so.

Appears to happen very infrequently with new BMWs. I recall forum member "stevenvillatoro" had the same thing happen to his new 2018 M240 back in Dec 2017 (see post below). Get it replaced.. https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1446344

If the battery sat for a very long time without being charged, then yes, it may need replacing. Or it may just need a full charge. In any case, this is the dealer's problem, not yours. Take it back and have them fix it!!

Definitely go for the new battery if you have a choice, rather than rehabbing yours. They cost a fortune, and are apparently somewhat prone to giving up unexpectedly (and often early). I've heard that part of this is the funky on-demand charging system, or that about 110% of the car is electrically controlled, but it is random enough that I suspect a quality control issue. My dealership advised me at purchase to always lock it in the garage, b/c this instantly shuts e/t down, rather than leaving it active for 20m or so - apparently even that is suspect for draining them. FWIW, I almost never do that, and haven't had an issue even with severe cold weather (I figured that if it was going to wear out, I wanted it to go during warranty period, but so far no signs of any problems).
