ASD Harness or BimmerCode?
I've looked to see if the question/answer has been mentioned and couldn't find anything.
I'm getting a 2018 m240 and wanted to know if there is a preference towards one of the two options and why. Feedback is greatly appreciated. |

Coding may cause a hiss. Seems like it's inconsistent though. I would code first so you can code other items as well and if you get the hiss then buy the harness.

Coding Out ASD
I recently coded out ASD on my 2016 M235i and do not hear any hiss at all. In fact, the radio now sounds much better since the music is not competing with the constant ASD sound. I think the earlier models of the 228 and 235 may have had the hissing issue when ASD was coded off, but the models starting with the 2016 do not have this problem

Haven`t been able to deactivate the ASD
Hello, I recently changed the sound system on my 2017 M240i, it originally had the base audio consisting of four 4" speakers and 2 underseat subwoofers. I used a Rockford Fosgate 3SIXTY.3 DSP to add 2 Alpine amplifiers, 2 set of Focal K2 Power ES100K Component Speakers on the front doors and rear deck, a pair of Bavsound Underseat Ghost Subwoofers and a pair of Focal P25f subwoofers in the the trunk.
I'm totally new at this so I had no idea this car came equipped with ASD so you can imagine how surprising it was when I heard how loud the engine noise is through the speakers. I have tried the technicpnp bypass harness and did work at low volume, but as soon as I turn up the volume on the music it somehow makes kind of interference with the DSP and music starts to be intermittent. I took it to a local bmw dealer make friends with the technician but it seems their diagnostic tool just lets them deactivate it temporary, as soon as I turn off the car and then turn it on again the ASD comes back on. Sorry for the ignorance, I really have no idea on how to "code it off" and would really appreciate some help from you guys. Thanks a lot!! |

Another +1 for BimmerCode. Very happy with the app, and very happy I coded the ASD off. No hiss, just true sound now.

Guys,
I've had a long break in any coding activity (the last time I used E-sys was some 4 years ago, when with a great help pf Shaw Sheridan, I successfully coded a few things in my F10). I'd like to code my 2015 M235i, but frankly never have enough time to download the right E-sys, PZData etc - hence the question: - if I bought the Bimmercode app, what my total cost would be including the right ODB dongle (I do have one I used before and still connect from time to time to use Torque or DashCommand, but that's a BT version and I understand Bimmercode only works with wi-fi, is this correct BTW)? - with my new wi-fi dongle, could I also run the 2 apps mentioned (Torque Pro and/or DashCommand) - or would it be only good with the Bimmercode app? - which is the best app version: iOS or Android? If iOS is the preferable way to go with Bimmercode app, would my old iPhone 5 still work with it without any limitations? Thanks, and have a great Christmas! Piotr

Low Music Volume after Coding
My 2020 M2 Competition was recently in for service and they updated the iDrive software to v7 in the process. When I got the car back, ASD was on again although I had previously coded it off. Many other iDrive settings were back to factory default too so assume they just reset everything.
Now with ASD on, I only have to turn the volume up about 1/2 when I listen to music. Before, with ASD coded off, I usually had to have the volume up 3/4 when listening. Also the music sounds better now, fuller, more bass, etc. Doubt the new software caused this, hence thinking it was ASD related? Has anyone else noticed that coding ASD off affects the volume and sound quality of your music? I've now ordered the Technic PNP ASD Bypass Harness, going to try that route instead of coding. At least the dealer won't be able to reset on me again.

Coded out ASD in both my '15 M3 and '16 228i using Carly for BMW. Zero issues, haven't noticed any difference in radio/media music quality on both Harman-Kardon systems.
