From MINI
"2021 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works Convertible 0-60 And Quarter Mile Times
The 2021 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works comes equipped with a 2-liter I4 that makes - and - of torque. The car takes 4.7 seconds to reach 60 MPH from a standstill while it is able to run a quarter-mile in 13.1 seconds. All the trims are powered by the same engine, hence, there is no change in the performance figures as you go up the trims." |

Out of curiosity, what other cars have you considered and what budget? A car I thought about for just what you are saying was a used Lotus Elise. Never had the chance to actually drive one but by reputation they are alleged to be a lot of fun. And I have a soft spot for simple, nimble lightweights.

Funny timing for me on this…. I just traded in a 2017 mini four door S, manual trans, for a 2016 m235i convertible. I was just reflecting on what I liked about either the other day. I have to say, I loved driving the mini. You can feel the lower weight, it’s really small and convenient in the city (I’m in Boston area), and overall was comfortable, pretty sporty, and fun. What I loved about it, and possibly the only thing I miss, is driving it closer to the limit. It’s fun to drive something hard. I LOVE the m235i, and I wanted a rear wheel drive, faster car, and that’s what I got. No regrets but I enjoyed the mini a lot snd I bet the JCW is a blast.
My m235i is a convertible. You may not be interested but I have zero regrets about that part. Driving with the top down is like a completely different experience. It’s amazing. And the extra power, handling (suspension), and rear wheel drive bias are amazing, so I have no regrets other than being able to constantly drive close the limit in the mini… which was fun. |

FWIW, I had a 2015 Cooper S that we added Enkei wheels and the JCW tune from Mini. That car was a blast to drive. Before we traded for our 2019 S, I wanted to compare a F56 JCW to mine, so I did a test drive with the salesman. We ran a set course (they use for test drives), with straights for acceleration and some curves, etc (basically in town w/ traffic but areas to test peppiness and handling). About a 15 minute ride. While I was driving, I wasn't blown away with that car's performance compared to mine. The TQ didn't seem to be there on the low end and overall the car did not feel lively to me. They salesman was going on about how peppy the JCW is. I didn't say much during the drive. Just made some mental notes on how the car felt when doing acceleration and handling. The JCW was a automatic which I had set to D/S on the shifter (stick pulled to the left) and car was set to sport.
When we got back to the dealership, he asked what I thought. I said it's okay and asked him if he had a minute to take a drive in my 2015. He did, so off we went. Same course with me diving the car the same way I drove the new JCW. I asked the salesman what he thought of mine. He said this car is faster than the JCW. It's quicker off the line and from a roll at 15-25 MPH. The handling was excellent also. He was very surprised when we got back to the dealership. When the Manager asked what I thought of the JCW, I said my car felt faster and more nimble and his salesman nodded in agreement. We traded the 2015 in for a 2019 S w/ the factory JCW tune and did a wheel swap too. The 2019 runs like my 2015 did. Not saying the JCW isn't a better car overall with the race upgrades and appearance packaging. Just saying that a Cooper S with a JCW tune and a lighter set of wheels for in town hooliganism can be a option for thousand$ less than a full-on JCW. Both my Mini's had the "Factory" (installed by MINI) JCW tune. Not aftermarket. Authorized and fully supported by Min with full factory warranty. Last edited by USA-RET; 01-19-2022 at 08:49 AM.. |

Prior to my 2019 M240i, I owned a 2014 Mini JCW Coupe 6sp MT from new. Upon delivery, I got a JB+ tune that gave a big boost in power and torque. This was an awesome ride driving in the canyons and mountains. I have never been afraid to push against more powerful cars in any driving situations.
I never got interested by the Cooper S and furthermore by the Gen3 that got bigger and heavier from 2015 but with still the same anemic engine from the previous years. If you want some fun, definitely go for a stock JCW because it has a bigger turbo and close to 40 hp more than the S model. Avoid any modified car that may have been abused.

Yep I went with the 2 sorta
I had forgotten about this thread I started and I was serious about getting a fun car. Since the current 2 has now shifted to another sub forum I have missed out over here. I decided to get the G42 M240. So when I went to buy one I couldn’t find one anywhere. So decided to order one. Well it took 7.5 months of patience. It it did come in a few days after New Year’s Day. I live in the winter not wonderland so only have 600 miles on it. I am not storing it for the winter like past my past 2 series I only drive it on dry roads which are very few around here in winter.
I want to talk my wife into a mini is now my new plan. |

Seems like more car
Since I am breaking it in like an old man I haven’t been able to exercise it yet. But just driving it so far it seems more like a 3 series. Size and feel. It rides nice and it is very smooth with engine /transmission. I liked the f22 that’s why I wanted another 2 series. I will withhold judgement for a few weeks when it has more time on it.
Thanks Hap |

It’s not
I bought the m240 2023 different chassis then the 2020 I had. Here we go I didn’t like the m240. I only put 800 miles on it and I didn’t like the car or the money invested in this “Toy”. If you look back in this thread I was thinking about a mini.
I ended up selling the bmw back to dealer and they had this mini. Made the deal and here it is. I have had it couple months and it’s fast and fun. I do keep thinking I want to go back to BMW 2 series f22 2019-21 which I liked. So I have the Mini for sale but haven’t found a 2 series I want yet. Hey this is my hobby and hobbies cost money. Go ahead ask what is wrong with me. Hap Last edited by Hapbob; 06-25-2023 at 03:38 PM.. |

Bought the mini used and sold it when decided I needed a f22. The mini was good but just not a b58 in a f22. I know it’s crazy but hopefully this is it. I am the President of car of the month club ! Hap |

I currently have a 2021 M240i convertible and previously had a MINI Cooper Convertible S. No comparison between the two. The mini was fun to drive but it had horrible fit and finish. Had tons of little problems with it and wound up lemon lawing it. In the end regretted taking the money they offered rather than making them take back the car. Mechanically it was fine, no problems but plastic fittings, gaskets, etc we’re all crap.

2014 or so, BMW announced that they were a "global" car company and sourced parts (mostly plastic) from around the world. 3 years later, they announced that most parts would come from Germany and Europe. After 3 replaced (warranty) bumpers on my '15 S MINI and front cowl parts on my '15 228i X, it appears that quality control may be better. Not, just had to wrap the purple bumper on the S.

Each BMW model is usually manufactured in a single factory, at most two.
The X cars, for example, are manufactured in South Carolina (and now, I believe, China, for that market only). The MINI is built in Oxford, England, the home of the original MINI and the home of Morris Garages since the early 20th Century. The 2-series used to be made in Leipzig, Germany, but the new model is built in Mexico. Factories can vary in quality, but it would be odd for the parts to differ as much as you describe since they are usually outsourced. My sister had a MINI and my objection to it was that the interior design was overly busy, but that is not a quality issue, simply a matter of taste. |

My point was that the parts were sourced worldwide according to their advertising. Bmw announced, soon after that, the parts would be sourced (manufactured) back in Germany and Europe again. Obviously, quality control issue on the parts, especially plastic ones.
