WOW! You are a life saver. I had my car for 2 days and it started driving me crazy, why the passenger mirror wasn’t dipping anymore when I put the car in reverse!

My wife and I HATED when the mirror dipped when going in reverse. I was so glad when I finally figured out how to turn that off!

Easy enough to switch off again by moving the mirror selection switch from the right hand mirror to the left hand one on an LHD car.

It is controlled by which mirror you have selected for adjustment. Select the left one, the right one will not move, select the right one the right one will dip on reverse. (or I might have that backwards, either way that's it)

Having had this car for 8 months now and coming from an 335xi 6mt, here are a few little things that I have just learned to live with;

Driving modes could be more customizable eg. can't use traction (DTC on) and sport together, can't have soft EDC without fingertip light steering, etc.

Missing the forward and back buttons for the sound system on the steering wheel.

Shift paddles are too small. Really they should be on the column, not the wheel. Even the push/pull up/down on either paddle would be better, though I know that was controversial on earlier models. Have ordered some bigger paddles to try and fix.

But the one big thing that continue to irk me is how ridiculously picky this car is about wheel and tire fitment. Still trying to figure out what to buy for summer wheels and tires for next season. Info on the internet (and this forum) is kind of all over the place. What barely works for one person may not barely work for another. Hard to get reliable answers that make me comfortable making a decision.

Still, all in all really enjoying this car. Happy New Year everyone.

You do have it backwards (although I agree with the logic in the way you have it spelled out). You need to select the left mirror for the right mirror to dip (automatic curb monitor). If you want the mirror to not dip, move the switch to the right.

What I dislike about my 2 Series....winter edition.

No remote start. I mean really, you can expect remote start even on medium level Hyundai's and Kia's these days. Is this too much to ask, BMW?

For me it's the lack of remote start and the rear defroster doesn't seem to have a lot of oomph. Takes forever to melt even the lightest frost if at all.

Any way to change the heat settings in the programming on that like you can with the heated seats and what not?

Possibly somewhat a cultural issue. It's illegal in most if not all of Europe due to excessive/wasted emissions.

I suppose they still do think they can control the weather. Meanwhile I leave work in below zero temps and can't have a warm vehicle to get into.

Not sure their hopes go that far, but carbon emissions/pollution are a huge issue on the continent. Lots to read, if interested.

I think some newer models have it. I even read that it could be added to older ones a while back, but the Connected Drive Store they reference does not appear to be functional at all for me at least, so who knows.

Lots of aftermarket remote start options available in any case. Can't say whether they play nice with warranty though.

I'm out of warranty, so no worries there. But I hate the idea of having to carry two remotes with me. We don't drive the 2 enough in the winter for me to part with the cash to have remote start installed. My wife works from home 4 of 5 days a week so I just drive the Lincoln most winter days, I can start it from my phone and it preheats the steering wheel and the seats. But if our situation changes I'd probably consider it.

No problem in our M240i warming up quickly in -30C weather, heated steering wheel and seats work well. too. No need for warmup idling which is hard on the vehicle mechanicals anyway, as it significantly extends the time that cold oil is circulating in the engine and driveline. As BMW says in the manual, start it and drive off with gentle throttle inputs.

Just for fun I called the number on the Connected Drive page and asked about adding remote start. After checking my VIN I was told that remote start could be added but it required a hardware upgrade and I would have to speak to my dealer about that.

I'm not going to pursue it, as my car is garaged when I am at home, and as aerobod points out it warms up pretty fast if you just get in and drive it. Heated seats and computer controlled electric water pump FTW, but the option does appear to exist at least on the newest BMW models for people who really want it.

Gentle throttle inputs? What are those?

Seriously, I prefer letting my car idle a few minutes before I get in. Possibly I've been spoiled by our Lincoln which preheats the steering wheel and seats for me. But at least it sounds like you know about the extreme low temps we see here.

Supposedly, after speaking to a friend of mine who works in BMW Corporate, the security sections of iDrive code would not allow remote start. They'd basically have to re-write iDrive software so BMW never bothered for years. Now that enough people have bitched about it and its available on every car no matter how inexpensive the car is, if you buy a new BMW with the new version of iDrive (version 7 or 8? I forget) then it comes with remote start.
