I hear you.

The principal reason I didn't go Cayman is I don't see it as 5K-mile road trip car. You know, once 5K road-trip cars become a thing again.

Glad to know how you folks feel about the car and about the cayman too! but also considering an M2 for the practicality.

I wonder how do you feel about the skidpad results, I was hoping for an improvement with the wider track, wheelbase and tires but seems like its 0.94 just like m235i, are these numbers a good indication of how stable the car is at the limit? M2 for example achieves 1G according to C&D

Higher front camber, less toe-in, stiffer suspension and potentially wider stickier tyres all help the lateral grip, but at the expense of increased tramlining, higher tyre wear, harsher ride and increased noise. Depends on what the focus of the car is, with the M240 being aimed more at the grand tourer class than the track day crowd.

Fascinating...were they ever? Where and how often did you do these, and how long does it take? I see even the Cannonball Run is "only" 2,906 miles.

Leaving from home, it's ~2,400 miles to Banff National Park with three stops on the way; ~1,425 miles to San Francisco with a stop outside Seattle; ~1,850 miles to Fayetteville, AR; and ~700 miles to return home. That's the loose plan I have for later this year - as long as it makes sense then, and the border's still open.

Not so often anymore; from the mid-60s to the mid-80s, roughly every five years or so. The last one was in the summer of 1998. The trips generally lasted an indeterminate length of time unless they had a singular purpose with a need to get back by a certain date. An example: Grass Valley, CA to Lake Winnipesaukee, NH - two nights coming and going and three nights at the lake. Another trip had no fixed itinerary and took four months with lots of stops, including three weeks spent on Sanibel Island, FL when we decided we needed a break.

Thanks for detailing and just....wow! Never had such an adventure on my radar. Been busy all the career years flying overhead! But, I know and enjoyed most of your destinations via air, and could easily spend three weeks on Sanibel/Captiva just hunting for shells! Anyway, enough of my but thanks for the detour!

I have owned 5 Porsche Caymans including a Cayman R. My first two had hydraulic steering and the last 3 were electric (most recent one was 2019). The steering is more precise and better weighted but I suprisingly have not missed it as much as I thought that I would having replaced it with the 2018 M240i. I used all my Caymans as daily drivers. I also took some 1200-1500 mile road trips. I found them incredibly enjoyable short or long distance.
