Spotify won't send artist, album, or track info over Bluetooth

Hi all,

Has anyone else with an M235i had issues with Spotify not sending artist, album, or track information over Bluetooth? I started running into this issue probably 1.5-2 years ago on my 2015 M235i and have been on the phone with both Spotify and BMW to try to resolve it with no luck.

The first song will pull up fine, but songs after that will display as unknown artist, unknown album, unknown title, and the track listing will be off (playing track 11 of 10, and that track total count is totally arbitrary). If I go back two tracks and forward one, it gets the track count correct (12 of 12) and the song info pulls through until the next song.

Apple Music works fine, but I don't want to pay for multiple music streaming services if I can help it.

I have the latest software update from BMW (UPD09032) and am running iOS 14.4.2 on an iPhone 11 Pro with Spotify version 8.6.18.833.

Appreciate the help in advance!

I have a similar issue in the new-to-me 2015 BMW with the larger head unit (tech package). I can't tell when the track details show up but 9 times out of 10 they don't. Anyone else connects over Bluetooth and use Spotify? Any resolution/workaround?

My car's in the shop and I'll try connecting via USB to see if anything changes.

Same problem, 2015 M235i. Would love to know if this is fixable. Thinking of doing the upgrade to CarPlay through codemybimmer.

Does iPhone allow you to change your AVRCP version? I've had this issue before on a different car, and it was because my phone (Android at the time) was leveraging a version newer than what my car supported. Defaulting it to a lower version resolved it for me.

If you can change it, maybe try setting it to a lower version?

Same - On my M235i 2016 it only works with the USB cable. On the bright side, I find my tracks sound a lot better when using wired vs. Bluetooth.
