BMW CPO Warranty Extension

My 2016 M235i's CPO warranty is expiring in June 2021 with roughly 28K miles on the odo. I am considering if I should extend my warranty or not. [Sorry if this has been hashed out, but havent found the answer to what the actual costs are]

BMW Seattle is quoting me $4500 (plus taxes) for BMW's own +2 year/unlimited miles CPO Warranty extension. But they are pushing their in-house, parent company, Lithia's warranty package. The numbers are like +4 years/60K miles for $4900 or +6 years/75K miles for $5600.

I am planning to keep her for another 3-5 years and would like to know that I am covered through some sort of warranty coverage, but not sure if it is worth the upfront payment.

Anyone run into any major issues for the 2014-2016 M235i? Something that would make this huge upfront cost worthwhile.

Also, the Lithia one has a deductible of $250.

2014 M235i owned since new, I have 96k km now and have replaced an OFHG and coolant hose, roughly $1000 in repairs. If you have the ability to self insure, I think you'll be way further ahead than spending $5k for 2-4 years.

Wow thats steep, I was quoted for the BMW CPO warranty for 2 more years $3,100 and declined. Warranty companies make money, a lot, so mostly you are buying peace of mind. Doesnt mean the tranny doesnt drop and you benefit, but odds are with warranty folks.

I have 2016 235i with 32K miles. PM me and I'll give you dealership name/number, you could do online and save $$. Call around to dealers, all they need is your VIN, shop that price. Tell finance guy you are shopping for best price for CPO 2 year warranty.

Just bought a 2018 CPO M240i and purchased a 4 year, 48,000 mile warranty post CPO warranty coverage. $5,200 through the BMW Dealer. My SA and Finance Manager shopped around with me to find it.

That is pretty pricey. I always look at it like you have to spend $4,500-$5,000 just to break even. I wouldn't. sweat it. These cars generally don't need much at your mileage. Even a couple of repairs for let's say $2,000, and you are still way ahead.

Warranty's are more more about peace of mind, and that only you can answer.

I can't imagine any way a 2er would incur $5000-6000 in warranty service over the next 3-5 years to justify an extended warranty.

The 2er and N55 are proven to be very reliable. Skip the extended warranty, it's a racket and a big money maker for dealerships.

Waste of money.

Items most likely to fail in the next 2 to 5 years:

- Valve cover gasket
- Oil filter housing gasket
- Expansion tank coolant hose
- Belt tensioner and idler pulley
- Valvetronic actuator assembly

None of the above would amount to $4000+ and many can be done yourself.
