The Pirelli all-season run flats also bear little relation to the Max Performance summer P-Zero PZ4 runflats that they also produce, this tyre is equivalent to a Michelin PS4S ZP run flat, compared with the Primacy 3 ZP which is in the Grand Touring tyre category.

It's a trade-off. You can't have everything. For us older guys who are well past changing a tire on the roadside in the rain, it's runflats all the way.

If anyone in the NE area is selling run flats from their 235i I'd be interested. My wife is taking this car as her DD and she goes through some neighborhoods that I definitely don't want her lingering in at night. I am not worried about the drop in performance with Ms. Daisy behind the wheel!

The thing that tipped the scales to non-RFT for me: most nail punctures are easily repairable on non-RFT, and generally NOT repairable on RFT.
I get one or two of those a year, usually causing a slow leak that the TPMS detects before it's a real problem. $30 repair at my local tire shop. |

If you catch a nail in a RFT while the
pressure is still above 15-20 psi, there’s no reason you can’t plug it yourself with a Dynaplug or similar. Shops don’t want to do it because they assume you drove on it with little or no pressure (in which case you shouldn’t be repairing it, whether RF OR not). That being said, I always have a Dynaplug, manual pump, compact spare and jack in the back of ALL our cars. |

I despise the ride and price of runflats. I also don’t like that if you order it new with runflats, at least when I ordered mine in 2014, the ECU was speed limited at a lower speed.
I did end up on a flatbed once for destroying a tire, but it was so heavy I’m pretty sure the runflat would’ve been destroyed too (a curbed 2inch steel plate pointing up stabbed my wheel). So for me, I’ll never pick runflats if I can avoid it. I do have 5 identical wheels with RS4s, so I have a spare wheel for track days |

In Canada when ordering a BMW with all-season tyres it is speed limited to 210km/h in most cases. I’ve had a couple of BMWs with summer runflat tyres in the past that had the higher 250km/h speed limiter that is used on most non-M cars with summer tyres. All-season tyres are the reason for the reduced speed limiter, as opposed to them being runflats.

For my 2 cents, BMW should have put the run flats on as OEM equipment when they removed the spare. From a personal experience, that air compressor with fix a flat foam is useless and kinks up the hose so it is basically a one shot. Getting another can and hose from BMW was a $75 boondoggle.
