Thanks all!

I decided on this one after reading about Road and Track's MPG test. Their tests found the mileage to be almost identical between the 2.0 and the 3.0 L cars. Time will tell if this holds true for me.

The combination of the weight savings and the LSD/6 sp manual is really cool.

I have to admit that it drives more "refined" than anything I have driven with a manual transmission.

I do not think one is better than the other. Just different. I would definitely want the manual gear box, and hopefully the LSD. At the end of the day, you will not be a "happier" person due to more HP. 228 is a better balanced car.

Is this the car with the revised engine that solved the timing chain issues? Bearing issues? ? Any other issues to be aware of.

I would like to track the car and do autocross. Cheers and thanks to any replies.
Go to the BMW NA website and enter your car's VIN. That should tell you if the car is subject to any recalls or extended warranties.

The engines do not have a dry sump. Very rarely they suffer from oil starvation at the track. R compound tires would make the problem worse.

IMPORTANT: MANY automakers have the same problem These include Corvettes, Subarus and Porsche Caymans (up to 2008). You can baffle the oil pan (less expensive than the M2 sump), or replace the sump system with the M2 sump. (expensive)

Congratulations! You have integrated the realistic principle that eludes so many here who write of "better" and "upgrade" for all sorts of attributes (appearance, speed, etc.). So many try to impose their preferences when, in reality, as you state, things are only actually the same or different in this universe, before our individual human subjectivity arrives on the scene. Well done!
