Tints!

Ok, so... I went and found a local xPel Certified installer, and had the tints installed. 20% Ceramic XR+... Reputable place, lots of high end clients.

Unfortunately, didn't look close at anything but the tint when I left and when I got home, noticed "BOTH" door covers (interior) have cut/nicks on them now. Can post pics of necessary. Small but noticable, and only in places that would have been from the install (close to window/top of panel).

My question is, with less than 3k miles on the clock, what would be the position you take with installer? I've spoke with them and they're willing to make things right. But they want to look and see if it can be repaired (???) and if not, they'll replace the panels. I noted that if the panels are being replaced, it will occur at and by my dealer. The door panels run $968(US) each... Is crazy and I'm really freaked, but handled it fairly calm as I've got a lot of other things going on.

Not too sure what or how it could be repaired and I'm not too sure I even want that. Just figured I'd throw this out there to get opinions. Good or bad, appreciate it and thanks in advanced.

Regards

Please post photos of the "door covers". I am not sure what door covers you are referring to.

I'm guessing he means the door cards, interior panel?

if you see nicks anywhere than they may have applied a large sheet and cut away the excess. place I go to doesn't do that. I'd try to find a place like that.

good luck negotiating with them.

Precut sheets is just a different method of install, neither better or worse. The panel still needs to be pulled away from the glass. Typically, the other method, the film is sized on the outside and applied on the inside. Yes the panel needs to be pulled away from the glass in order to place the edge of the film below the point where it will abrade against the panel edge when the window travels. I don't have a problem with the either method. Had many cars done before, never a problem!

I met with the owner, and so far, a class act. Apologetic, admitted they seen the installer on camera struggling with the door, etc. They have their own guy and will have it fixed, and if not to my satisfaction will replace the panels, all at my discretion! I won't be able to drop off car for a few weeks though, so will post up results when it happens.

Just an update, the shop made good! Repaired the door panels where the damage is gone, can't tell it was there. He didn't say if he fixed or replaced but I don't care actually.

Funny thing is the damned driver door handle was loose now, and I heard the screw behind the handle fall into he door trim once while pulli g to close the door. Not sure if it was tint shop or factory that had screw loose and the tint shop Messi g with door loosened it? Either way, drives you nuts. I'll pull door trim and find screw and do it myself. Really don't want anyone fixing it, lolz

I guess when there's Ferrari and Porches there, the little BMW gets the new guy?

Anyways, all is good!
