I ask that because of this video....

As far as I am concerned (don't quote me) this video is just for NA cars. Since we have a turbo, we actually don't want back pressure. So technically removing the resonators should/could help performance. Probably not by much. Won't hurt anything though. This is why high performance cars have less restrictive exhaust systems.

And, will I still pass NYS emissions testing?
Unless you did a 12k+ mile a year lease, I don't think it will ever go on a lift but I could be wrong. I kept my resonators so they can go back in when I turn it in. If they give me shit about it, oh well.

And no, it will not affect your emissions. This is all after the cat.

Ok thanks. I do have 12k mile allowance.

Look into OC muffler man in placentia. I don't have my car yet but plan on going there when I do. I did a catback install there and they did a great job. I imagine they can do resonator/muffler deletes too.
Thanks. I'll contact them once I hit 500 miles. Lol

One quick question - how would you compare it to this?

I'm not speaking about 'loudness' just tone.

Thanks

For those who removed both resonators, did you notice any improvement, even subtle, in terms of performance or acceleration ???

The shop you went to did a nice clean job! Looks and sounds great!
If you got the GoPro, I'd love to hear some videos from the inside and outside while driving. Please and thanks!

Pretty similar, I think. Of course I don't hear my car from the outside all that often so it's hard to be sure!

Not really. Maybe very, very subtle, but it could be my imagination. The resonators are both straight through so there's not much to gain. When we ripped out the front resonator, I was really hoping it was actually a cat after the o2 sensor, but no such luck

Living with the Resonator Delete

My M240i is on order but won't be delivered till July. In the mean time, I am reading (and listening) to the various exhaust mods for this car and anticipate that I will be making changes to my car after it arrives. Based on the various videos and comments about MP mufflers which seem to slightly deepen the exhaust note but not raise the output volume significantly, are those of you who just did the resonator delete still happy with the results? Do you plan to also add the MP muffler to lower the tone? Also, has anyone yet deleted just the front resonator and care to share how that turned out?

The expensive option: Buy the Remus Catback System (non resonated) or the Dinan Catback System.

The cheap and also great option: Buy the Dinan midpipe and keep the stock muffler.

The MPE it's a subtle improvement over the stock muffler. Deeper tone but lack of burping...

It would be great if you could fit the MPE with the Dinan midpipe but i guess that's not possible...

Still breaking my car in but I was also considering just deleting the first resonator as it seems like deleting the second "resonator" didn't do much for sound as this thread mentioned.

I did the dual resonator delete and couldn't be happier with the results.

Here's a short video clip I recorded:

Impressive

Quantumn: Impressive exhaust sound. Seems to have a lower pitch than stock which I like. Did you consider just deleting the front resonator?

I actually deleted the rear one first because I was afraid the front one would generate too much noise. I drove around for a couple weeks then finally decided to go with both. IMO both is the perfect amount of sound coming from the exhaust. In comfort mode, it sounds nearly the same as stock but put it in sport...

The exhaust has probably 10-15% more sound but with the windows up you still barely hear it except a very subtle overrun sound.
With the windows down, you can definitely hear the exhaust!

This mod sound pretty impressive. The sound is right up there with exhausts costing a TON! Since there is almost no gains from exhaust mods other than sound, I think I might have to pull the trigger on this one.

The money I save can go to a Dinan Elite!

Custom Exhaust Issues?

Quantumn: Did you have any problems finding a shop to make you custom pipes to replace the resonators? Roughly, what did it cost?
