Deleted both resonators (video and pics)

After much back and forth over whether to do a muffler delete or just delete both resonators, I opted for the resonator delete. The M240i has two resonators, while I think (though I could be wrong) the M235i only has one. I had a local shop remove both and weld straight pipe in place for $140 total. It's essentially the same thing as a non-resonated midpipe but less expensive.

I love the result. The car is maybe 15-20% louder when accelerating at all RPMs, but there is no drone. It's loud enough so you can finally hear the exhaust, but not loud enough so as to be obnoxious. The exhaust also sounds just a little more "raw" in a good way.

I also now get louder and longer overrun and it's in every single gear (yes, even 6th) when I come off the gas in sport or sport+. Before I'd only get overrun/burbling in 2nd gear. I love it.

Pics and video below. The video doesn't really do it justice, as it's hard to tell the volume. Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome. If you're looking for just a little more volume and depth and a lot more overrun, this is the mod. It sounds like what a performance car should sound like stock.

Well, this is great !! Congrats ! Sport midpipe at a fraction of the cost.

That's the way our cars should sound.

This proves the "sound problem" of the M240i it's the midpipe section with 2 resonators/silencers.

From the video this is exactly what I am looking for in my car. This just has the resonator deletes, no other mods like DP? I want downpipe but also think I may want to do the delete as well to get more sound.

No other mods -- just straight pipe in place of the resonators!

Sounds good man. Saved yourself a good chunk of change there.

Does comfort mode still retain the quietness for when you're just cruising since you're not messing with the exhaust valve?

Thanks. Comfort mode is a little bit louder, but nothing drastic. There's no drone.

I'm going to try this and I have the MPE so hopefully it won't be droning.

Be interested in your feedback as MPE has no valve so drone may be more likely at 2k rpm in high gear....

Wow Wow Wow! Needed to hear that! Now I'd rather go to the exhaust shop that going to grocery store.
Possibly getting an X-Pipe done.

I'm the OP on the "deleted resonator today" post and just deleted the rear one with no result. I really appreciate you adding this video. It sounds great and is the change I was looking for. It looks like I'll be back to the exhaust shop to get the job finished. Apparently the front resonator is the one that actually makes a difference.
BTW- Great looking car, It looks exactly like mine

I just had my front resonator removed for $60, so now they are both gone like yours. This really is how the car should come from the factory. It is just loud enough to hear when driving with nice and audible cold starts but is never too loud at all. I recommend that anyone who is considering a little more sound go to your local exhaust shop and have this done. You won't regret it.

Since you removed the back one and it has no result, I wonder if we just have to remove the front one and it would give the same effect as having both off. I have the MPE and still a little worried about removing both resonators (or whatever the second one is called).

I was actually wondering the same thing. I can't definitively say because I did it in the opposite order but there's no harm in just deleting the front one first and doing the rear one later if necessary. I bet the front one would do the trick, but I'm never satisfied so I knew both would be coming off eventually anyways.

Your post was the final tipping point for me to go back to the exhaust shop to do it. Thanks again for sharing your results with everyone.

Oh and if anyone is in the Houston area, I went to affordable muffler off of Dairy ashford. They did great work for a good price and were quick, polite and seemed trustworthy. I was having a hard time deciding on where to go and lucked out with their shop. I've had different experiences at various other exhaust shops...

Sounds amazing. I'm getting mine done tomorrow morning at a local shop. I'll try to have a video up by the end of the weekend for you guys.

Doing this on a lease...does this classify me as a rebel??

I got a lease and I added a diffuser, lip, side skirts, wrap roof, dropped, changed rims, change grills, changed exhaust, tint and will get an engine tune soon. I did all of that within the two months. I am a senior member of your rebel group. haha

Deleted both resonators on friday and all I can say is WOW! This mod truly makes a wonderful difference. Don't even need to get an exhaust now. Best $200 I've ever spent!

Sounds amazing !

You don't need an exhaust system anymore ! Any drone so far ???

I'm wondering how the M240i MPE would sound with this resonator-delete setup.... Maybe more likely to drone since it doesn't have valve ??
