Here you go, Curt 11367 hitch on M235

Ok folks, here it is. The Curt 11367 3/4 series hitch installed on the M235. I have accomplished this even retaining the underside heat shield. These pics are with the MPE and M diffuser.

One casualty suffered, the front r/h cover tab broke when I pulled on the cover. The l/h popped right out, the r/h just broke off.

Enjoy the show.....

1-Up rack pic's uploaded & with bike mounted

Thanks for being the first person to bite the bullet.

It does look like it sits much higher on the F2x vs the F3x - was hoping it would be a no trimming affair like the F30.

Either way, great to know it fits and for ~$150 it's a much nicer solution than the roof rack!

Thanks for being the first! How long did it take you and what tools were needed? Also, what did you use to cut the diffuser? Post updates when you get the bikes on there!

It took awhile but I tend to be slow and through.... torque, loctite, etc. Have a big racing back ground. Used the standard tools they recommend with a few I prefer. I used a hacksaw, flat & round file, exacto knife, dremel to do the diffuser. Small tin snips for the heat shield

How would this have been different if you installed the diffuser after the hitch? I'm thinking getting the performance diffuser as well as the hitch and not sure what to do first (if I get the diffuser at all)

Thanks for posting this.
It looks to me like the hitch goes behind the steel bumper, and pushes it back about 1/4". Does this cause any trouble with the fit of the plastic fender/bumper cover? Does it still line up correctly with other body panels?
It looks like you had to trim a little off of the back end of the heat shield. Did you have to trim anything else that is not shown in the photos?
My car is a 2016 M235i XDrive convertible. I wonder if there is any difference in the back end of my car compared to yours that would cause this hitch to not fit.
Sorry to see the broken tab. That kind of thing drives me nuts.
Thanks for taking the plunge. It's very helpful and encouraging to people like me looking for a hitch for this car.

I had to enlarge the mounting bolt holes in the hitch slightly for it to slide on and yes I had to trim the heat shield. they tell you you don't need it on the other series 3/4 but I wanted to put it back on so I spent the time cutting and test fitting till it went. On the bumper cover it rides hard on the corners since the hitch pushed the hard under bumper out but there is like a 1/4-3/8 gap there before you start so it just moves that far out and fills the gap

Hi, just wondering if you have had any problems since installing your hitch. I saw in a different forum that someone with a 1 series car had problems with the muffler rattling against their hitch when the exhaust system heated up, wondering if you have experienced this.

The Hitch Corner in Littleton CO is going to install the same one on my M235 on Veterans Day. Wish me luck!

You are correct, The Hitch Corner didn't have any trouble at all with the install. They do great work! And my Thule bike rack plugs in and folds up without touching the finish. Thanks again! It likely wouldn't have happened until I showed this thread to the owner a couple weeks ago. He looked it over and said OK we can do that. Hitch + labor were $287.

I can sent you my address if your feeling generous abour your savings

All seriousness congrats. It was worth the risk to me, it was too much of a PITA to shove my bike in the back 3+ times a week

Anyone try this with PDC yet? Just wondering if there will be enough space one for the PDC wiring.

For some reason I hadn't seen this thread before. I don't have any need to install a hitch on my M235i but I just wanted to acknowledge what a fantastic job you did. Looks perfectly stealth! Nice work!

cth6 Let us know how it goes!

I need to put a hitch on my car to trailer my motorcycle around.

Anyone doing this with the regular M Sport Bumper as opposed to the Diffuser?

Box arrived today, so it looks like I have a project this weekend after I mow the lawn.
