Acceleration

So was reading the other thread about new buyer competing interest cars and made me think about the first couple times this week I went wide open throttle with this car. 2500 miles. First downpour rain, tired of waiting for ever and ever for a right turn opening onto a 3 lane wide street. Went WOT and blended in 20 to 50 mph and perfect. Today 118 freeway someone on my ass, just cruising 85 and lane to right is empty. After prodding a bit for a race. Anyway, went WOT and did not “pull” this car as good as I think I should have. I just ramble. I suggested a wile back that this car would be neat with a 4.0 liter inline 6. And someone pointed out that that was stupid because the entire car would need to be longer. I don’t like that idea, but at what point could the motor have had more displacement and not need to impact the exact interior/exterior dimensions? 3.5 liter stock in theory nets what hp for the math folks out there, or better yet a 3.8 liter, just like old Buick Grand National and 89 Turbo Trans Am.

If you wish to get in touch with performance reality, take it to the track. That will open your eyes in a way that nothing else will.

The 2 series wasn’t meant for rolling drag races. High end it still falls on its face unfortunately. The stock turbo runs out of steam. The car can be quick even from a roll, but it requires performance mods that most don’t want to do.

Are we trolling here or ? No, the car is just fine and more than powerful enough with its silky smooth 3.0L B58. Why were you camping in the left lane when a car drove up behind you, and according to you, gave you plenty of time to move over to let them by? They'd burn you at the stake if you lived in Germany...

I hear ya, and 9 times out of 10 you’d be right, but the way the traffic patten went this car intentionally changed from its free lane to just to get behind me. Miles of 4 lane wide road with relatively light traffic. It was a dick move and I felt like changing to the right lane, f with them a bit and shut em down. Just wished it pulled quicker. And this car’s power is not the cats meow, I don’t care what anyone says.

Glad you said it. I was going to. Pisses me off to no end when guys ride the left lane because they think it's "the fast Lane", it's a "PASSING LANE"! You should have been in the right lane.

Run the right run until you come upon slower traffic, swing out to the left and pass, then return to the right lane.

Correct. The other car may have been one of those personalities who mostly wanted to "teach a lesson" on lane discipline and went out of his way, noticing OP's left lane attraction, to take the opportunity. Road rage disasters can result from such behaviors.

No offense, but for most drivers in here, the first "dick move" was for you to be riding in the left lane when lanes to your right were open. In my younger days, I would have been the guy changing lanes just to get behind you, for the sole purpose of making you realize you were being a dick and, in many areas, breaking the law. I have mellowed in my older days, but I would still give you a smh look when I passed you on your right.

^ This. Because it is the polite and legal thing to do. And also because cops are monitoring the left lane more closely for speeders and clueless left-lane-lurkers.

WTF? Is the OP high, drunk or simple? Why give genuine consideration to a response when he didn't give genuine consideration to crafting a question/post? Or he just has fuzzy hair and lives under a rock. #troll.

bimmerfile,

Thanks for the levity. It reminds me about the old joke about BMW's and porcupines...

Pick up drivers are the worst.
Especially The Dodge Ram owners.
Seems driving a 2 Series is like waving a red flag at a bull for them.
I'm driving fast, but not aggressively at all, and they gotta teach me a torque lesson on the expressway. It was a bit thrilling at first, but really kinda idiotic after a while. It's easy to reach a trucks limit on the highway. My cars limit is reached at a track. It's funny how the more polite drivers are in 'Vettes, Mustangs etc. Don't get me started on the minivans, real insecurity issues there.

Driving ettiquite understood, member trial not, nor is lounging in the left lane, which was not an issue. Yawn.

Strangely, I find this to be the case also. Notably, the trucks that are jacked so high, you need a step stool to enter. Especially scary on two lane roads with a line of traffic in both directions. Gets worse the more "rural" you venture.

It's called Napoleon Complex. They're trying to compensate for what they lack for in height and/or endowment lol You also forgot to mention the confederate flag posted on the tailgate too haha
