Lowered Aggressive Staggered Wheel/Tire Setup - MAX
Dedicating this post to people who are lowered, with/without camber plates, who are running an aggressive tire setup.
Who is running 245 fronts and 265 rears? or more intense.... Offsets and 18" or 19"? Spacers?? Camber setting? Drop in front and rear? Hindsight tells me to do 18x8.5et42 fronts with (245/40/18 or 35 profile) and 18x9.5et52 rears with (265/35/18). Been getting mixed reviews from biased sources trying to sell me their product.... |

The 245s on an 8" rim are already very tight (with an unmodified set up). That extra quarter inch might make a difference. Here is the link to the page where I excerpted the quote above: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=194 |

There's not much, that's for sure. Going custom with an outfit like Forgeline is the way to solve that problem. I didn't want to pay for that, and that's why I ended up with the unusual configuration on my car.

Offsets: 42 F & 58 R Wheel Sizes: 17X9 F & 18X9½ R (Apex ARC-8) Spacer: 5mm R Camber Settings: -1.9° F & -1.6° R Drops: -1¼" F & -1" R Clearly, 265s will fit back there (likely with a further camber and/or spacer change):

You can't get 265s back there with what you have now!? should line up fine id imagine. People get 265s on at et48 with 1" drop rear. Or is it the fact that you are doing track? |

Currently have a square set up with 18s on my current M240i. Looking for a set of 17s -- also with the same size wheels and tires at all four corners. |

2) I know what you mean, although my consideration is that I really wanted a fully-square setup instead of just square tread widths. 3a) I probably could have. The 255's tread width is 9.3" and the 265's is 10.1". I don't know what else we might have had to change for them to fit - e.g., more fender pull. 3b) Yes, this was done for the track, and I chose 255s all around because I wasn't convinced that I wouldn't be creating understeer that I didn't want if I had a wider tire on the rear. I haven't looked into doing a similar setup for the street - as it is, I hardly drive the car on the street. I'll be done with the track this year or next, and at that time I may go square with Bimmerworld's $400 17X9 ET 42 forged race wheels (see link below). If I do that, I'll put 245s on them. Quote:
They give the lie to a well-known wheel truism - you can have any two of the following, but not all three: Strong Light Cheap. For a strong (forged) and light wheel to cost only $400 is a one-off in my experience. The last time I looked, and it's been a while, forged wheels in these sizes were in the $700 range. I received the image below from Bimmerworld. It shows what their forged 17X9 ET 42s look like on an M240i (I don't know which Potenzas are on the wheels). Clearly, some fender-pulling and/or negative camber would clean the look up quite a bit. My car already has those mods, but I think that would be a small price to pay for a square setup in a strong, light, and moderately-priced wheel. My 2¢, of course.

lol, i've been in your shoes before. I wanted to try squeezing 245's in the front as well, but eventually compromised with 235s for a street setup. See my setup below for reference: Dinan Springs and Bump stops - alignment as close to stock as possible F/R with no additional camber mods. Apex EC-7's + Spacers F: 18x8.5 ET45 + 10mm (effective ET35) R: 18x9.5 ET 58 + 10mm (effective ET48) Michelin Pilot Sport 4S F: 235/40/18 R: 265/35/18 Right before this I was running on RE71 (F:225/40 and R:255/35). I didn't have any problems / rubbing with these tires and the 10mm spacers F/R. However, when I upgraded to the 235/40 fronts MPS4S, I started to rub at the front. Instead of backing down the spacer, I chose to roll my fenders and the rub has pretty much been negated, aside from HUGE (and it has to be pretty drastic) road undulations. The rub isn't at the fender but at the lip where the front bumper starts. Visually, if you wanted to achieve the same thing without rolling your fenders and no camber plates, 7.5mm spacers F/R would probably be perfect. You can go through my pics in my instagram below, but let me know if you need any others. I'm more active on FB / IG than forums currently. |

After your pics and input im pretty sure these wheels is the way to go. I am thinking 4mm spacers up front and 6mm spacers rear. The et41 should give me the wiggle to then run camber plates up front and fit the 245s.... et52 rear seems perfect for rears. although urs looks pretty clean/flush, i wouldn't mind tucking in the most i can and reducing reliance of spacers. I am just curious on inner clearance with 18x8.5et41 on 245s and how much room is left in there. if i can do et42 or even et43 i will. I found someone running et43 fronts on 245s, but on 8" width wheels.... the 8.5" wheel width will add 2/10ths of an inch of tire on the same 245 tire (theoretically) Last edited by jondagger; 06-10-2019 at 03:18 PM.. |
