My "new" 228i

Picked up a 2015 228i last week in Rockville, MD. The car is super clean w/ a bit over 32k miles. I traded in a Fiat 500 Abarth, so you can imagine how pleased I am w/ the refinement, powertrain, technology, handling, and comfort of the 228i. It has premium and technology packages along w/ heated seats, the terracotta leather interior, and a couple of other options. No sports package of any kind, but that's fine by me. After 4 years rowing the gears in a Fiat, I'm looking forward to some serene, but speedy, motoring!

I had planned on buying a new VW GTI or maybe a clean used Cadillac ATS coupe to replace the Fiat, but a recent rental in a brand new 2019 X3 w/ the 2.0L turbo and 8 spd. auto was an eye opener. What a fantastic powertrain! Smooth, economical, and plenty potent enough for me. Rear wheel drive is the icing on the cake and I love the coupe styling of the 228.

I'll be leaving it bone stock (except maybe ditching the run-flat tires as they wear out and adding a spare tire kit). New floormats are on the way. Lovin' it and looking forward to my next road trip!

nice! i'm a fellow marylander and daily drive my 228 around the lower beltway. it's been a great car! mine is still bone stock but i have an active autowerk axle-back exhaust standing by to replace the OEM muffler.

BTW, i kept the RFTs because there's just no way i'm getting out of the car on the beltway or any of the major arteries to change a tire. the RFTs have allowed me to get to a shop safely a couple of times. given the sorry state of the roads around the region, that may be something for you to consider.

enjoy the car!

Thanks happyjack! That is a REALLY good point you bring up. No way would I change a tire on the shoulder of the beltway either. I'll give the runflats a chance. I haven't really dug into any forum topics about the Continental runflats, but I have heard you can still plug most punctures just fine, despite Continental suggesting otherwise. I still have my plug kit and a small air compressor from my Fiat days and I've gotten quite good at plugging tires.

i'm running the pirelli cinturato P7s...they're OK. i run the bridgestone driveguards on both of my E90s and they do seem to have a better ride...but they're also 45 ratio vs the 40 ratio on my 228's pirellis. i may consider switching my 228 over to the bridgestones the next time i have to switch all 4.
