Harman Kardon Sound System Settings

Wondering what everybody else is using, I’ve found that +6 tremble with +4 bass is quite nice especially in higher volumes. However I can’t decide what’s the best fader setting, I feel like the back speakers have potential however when I put the fader towards the back it sounds like I’m loosing some of the immersive setting when it’s in the middle. What do you guys think? What are your settings?

What I have found works best so far is turning the treble down two notches and turning the bass all the way up. That takes away some of the screechiness, although it is more revealing of the lack of resolution of the HK setup.

Monday morning I am having everything but the subwoofers swapped out for Bavsound, and I am hoping that this will be a big improvement.

Amp too or just speakers? Once you get the speakers in you?ll want the subs. Trust me. And throw $100 at a FiiO X1 that?s the best value / $ upgrade there is.

I was scheduled to have the amp and all the speakers except the subwoofers replaced this morning, but unfortunately Bavsound sent the wrong size speaker brackets to the installer. So I do have a new Bimmertech amp, and it seemed to me that just the amp, with whatever setting the DSP was, improved the resolution and overall sound noticeably. I am now scheduled to have the HK speakers replaced on Thursday.

An obstacle to using a Fiio or any other similar device is that my car does not have an AUX input, just the USB input. The installer is consulting with Bimmertech to see if it is possible to add an AUX input.

I'll report back on how all this goes.

Ah that?s right. Sacrifices in the name of progress (aka cost cutting).

No consultation needed. The Bimmertech amp does have an analog input, as well as a digital input. Your primary challenge will be controlling source selection and anything you connect to the amp's input (FiiO DMP or otherwise) from the driver's seat. Wires shall be run ...

While a bit of a challenge it's also an opportunity in disguise as you can get good, clean source material directly into the amp. I would be interested in two things, first if you can source the BMW OEM USB / aux-in part and connect USB to head unit and aux-in to amp for a factory look install withing the armrest. Second would be the switch VM mentions.

WHILE YOU ARE AT IT AND THE CAR IS APART - isn't that amp controlled / settings tweaked via an Ethernet cable? I'd run that up to the armrest as well so you wouldn't need to rip the trunk back apart to mess with it.

I replaced the front HK speakers with the Eton B100W 10 Cm 2 Way Components over the weekend. Great sound improvement! Buy them at Amazon.

Did you have to use the B100 XHP crossovers?

Going back to the original post... (No MODed HiFi Question)

I have an F23 with the upgraded HK system, its stock in current setup and have mine set up very similar except with the fader more prominent to the front / center speakers. I am not much of a HiFi fanatic and with a convertible, unless you drive top UP the majority of the time, the sound system is always competing with wind noise. For me, my car is not a daily driver and an upgrade / speaker swap-out is not on my to-do list anytime soon.

Hi everyone,

First post here, and sorry if it's not in the correct thread and so on. I tried searching for something similar, but this was the closest I could find. So bear with me.

Anyway, I have a 2016 230i with the Harman Kardon sound system, but when I go to sound settings, there is no Logic7 ON/OFF option. Am I doing something wrong here, or is it not supposed to be there in the first place? This might be a stupid question, so again; bear with me, fellas!

Kind regards.

For some reason these vehicles don't have the option, I think it is only available in 3 series and up with HK Systems.

They don't. 2 HK = 3 and beyond HiFi.

This is what I think is a good starting point for most music types.
Treble +3
Bass +3
Balance +2 to the right
Center speaker disconnected (cleaner sound).

Why do you shift the balance to the passenger side?

From driver perspective (sitting on left side) the left side speakers sound louder. Shifting to right +2 sounds more balanced to me.

Do you hook up the FiiO via Bluetooth? Are you still able to use your cell phone for calls? Looks like an interesting device.

No, you use AUX In which is a better connection sound-wise. Your car is old enough you should have one.
