Service History

Hi Folks,
Just gone back to BMW after a five year lapse, purchased a 2017 F22 Coupe.
When I picked the car up from my local BMW dealer there was not service history with it. when I questioned it they told me they don't give out service history books anymore and that it was now all kept on computer.
Is this correct or are they telling me a load of twoddle.
Cheers.

Sharing this info is an individual dealer decision. Not sure about a “book”, but certainly possibly to print ROs. Were they the original selling and servicing dealer? This probably would have gone differently if asked for as a condition of your purchase to help evaluate how it was cared for.

Sales people don't want the bother. Sit down with the service manager (you always get better response face to face). Usually the issue is that the service records have the personal information of prior owners. Tell him you just want the service history and they can cut off the owner data. If that fails, ask him to read the service history to you, that never fails.

As was already mentioned, you should have asked for that info prior to purchase.

Sounds like BS to me. My dealer has service records available for the BMW's, Mercedes and Jeeps they sell. I would go above the dealer and contact BMWUSA. Especially since you purchased another BMW.

All you need is to give your key to the SA and they can print out the entire service history.

BMWUSA is pretty useless for the OP in the UK.

This is correct, you don't get a service book anymore. Service history is available in iDrive.

I did ask for it prior to the purchase, that's when he told me that they now keep everything on computer.
perhaps it's just a European thing, as OveN thinks it's correct, I never thought of looking at the iDrive.

I know computers in the U.K. are connected to printers....I was handed a paper bill at the Conrad London St. James!

This is just an update to this thread, I've finally got an answer from the service dept of my local BMW dealership.
They no longer give out service history in book form, it is all kept on computer and can also be found on the idrive after it's first service. the first service is due when the car reaches 18,000 miles or two years old, which ever comes first.
As far as I know this is for European BMW's only.

I have a service history book for my E30 but not the 2 Coupe, I can find the service history either on the iDrive under vehicle information, service section or on the ConnectedDrive website.

No, our service intervals are 10000km (CBS) or annually whichever comes first.

It’s called “vehicle warranty inquiry” - a record of every service visit under factory warranty. It’s considered “confidential” because the owner’s address is listed. Ask your SA nicely 🙂

My Service Advisor gave me the maintenance history and the options that the car came from the factory for my used 2015.

My 228ix is 2 years and 2 months old. I have 11K on it. I have not had it in for service yet. Is that unusual. Old school here where I changed my oil etc much more regularly.
