Has anyone removed this center console trim below the radio?

It's the part circled in red in the photo attached.

Mine doesn't line up with the dash, similar to how it's shown in the photo. I'm not sure if any of them line up 100% but I'm hoping to be able to get it a bit closer.

I'm assuming you remove center vents, radio, then remove/adjust that trim piece?

Go to...

...www.newtis.info and enter the last 7 characters of the car's VIN. Hit enter and bookmark the page. The interior trim is section 51.

That piece just pries out from the top very easily. Put a pry tool in the top, press down till the two tabs clear the part above it and it'll rock right out. I'm not sure you're going to be able to get any better alignment with it.

I've always thought this would be the perfect place for a cubby-hole for cell, keys, wallet, toll tickets etc. But I assume there's no free space behind it? If there was, I might see if I could fabricate something suitable.

I just had this out last weekend to install my MMI CarPlay box. In my 16 M235i, there is NOTHING behind it, and there would be plenty of space to fabricate something.

I had the 6.5" screen with no nav originally; I'm not sure if the larger screens + nav use a larger headunit.
