Hmmm...this isn't a foreign based company that owns multiple dealerships in Northern California?

To your other comments I totally agree and understand why the relationship between Dinan and BMW had to change. I should have been more specific in trying to make the point it was nice when a BMW dealership would install Dinan products and work seamlessly in maintaining one's tuned vehicle.

The new Dinan appears to be getting its act together and their warranty is still a big plus IMHO.
Sojitz owns 5 dealerships in the entire country, TOTAL. Hardly a majority, regardless of how you chop it up.

What exactly has "new dinan" done to demonstrate getting its act together?

any update on when this might be available? I'm worried my lease will be up before this gets released.

They’re likely waiting for all new car b58 warranties to be over before releasing it, so they no longer have to pay for any issues their products cause.

Considering the B58 is going to be in production in new cars for a while - this statement makes zero sense.

it was a joke based on their current track record with the b58 stage 1 having issues.

Just saw a post by Dinan on Instagram that they are getting super close to having this ready! they didn't state an actual release date but sounds like it will be soon!

I have literally been waiting for this since q2 2018. Still no issues with the stage1 V1. Been 25 months and 23k miles with zero cels. Luckily BMW of Salem O.R. Is still a dinan dealer For now.

it seems that interest in the Dinan flash has waned and understandably so since it took so long to develop. but if anyone is still interested, I upgraded the dinantronics unit on my car to the new flash tune last week. at first I was a bit underwhelmed as I was expecting a very noticeable increase in power. however after driving it a lot the past few days I have to say I'm really liking it! not that the power didn't come on pretty smooth before but it seems even smoother and more consistent now. also I feel it has completely eliminated the throttle lag i used to get when starting off in first gear! that's probably worth the upgrade right there. also, I do feel it pulls harder initially and at higher revs the few times I've gotten it up in that range. I'm sure the power increase would have been much more noticeable if I had gone straight from stock to the flash, but even though I didn't, there are several improvements over the dinantronics unit as i mentioned above. overall I'm pretty impressed with the tune and glad I did it!

Thanks for the update. Dinan has been really challenged with sourcing as of late, so it's good to hear a little positive news. I will be considering the change after my warranty expires.

So it’s not a “stage 2” with more power/torque? Just a Flash version of the Stage 1?

No. Not Stage 2. And when you go to their website, it's even more confusing now. They dropped Dyno numbers which made my eyes bug out, but then I saw it was with 100+ octane fuel. : I have the stage one V1 and won't spend that much money for tiny gains.

The B58 isn't really a platform they care all that much about. They'll have a new tune for the next true M car in a few months, but this 4 year old M Performance motor isn't that high on their list. Sad, but what can we do?

FWIW, I didn't find Dinan's page confusing. I also didn't see a reason to switch my V2 piggyback to their flash tune.

Since I'm not going to the track anymore and have a remarkable number of moving violations to my credit, a very modest increase in power doesn't look especially necessary at this point in time. As a practical matter, the car is already stupidly fast, tune or no tune.

yeah I hear you, but it only cost me the labor to have the dinantronics removed so figured the juice was worth the squeeze. also it removed the top speed limiter which was nice for me as my car was limited to 130 due to it coming with all season run flats. the biggest hassle right now is the DME has to be shipped to Dinan for the flash and can't be done at the dealer. however they are working on a tool for the dealer to be able to use to do it themselves, which should be ready soon.

Cant see a need

Yes, my thoughts are that this makes no sense for me. There is not enough performance improvement and the piggyback is working fine. Im disappointed though. Ive been using Dinan products for years through many cars. Yes the car is quick now. Id upgrade for a significant performance change but not just to have a PITA flash (sending back the DME). Ill concentrate on handling now.

FWIW, Dinan authorized dealers should be able to do the flash without having to send in the DME. I know it's a little early to have all of the DME codes and it still may require sending it in for now. But over the next several months, they should have most accounted for.

The way I read it; a replacement for the piggyback, in the form of a flash tune - for better or worst..

I guess the advantage of a flash tune over a piggy is a more linear power band but also mean you're re-writing the stock software - so goodbye factory warranty.

Which I guess is not that of big deal since they have their own supplementary coverage, which can sometimes leave a lot to be desired but those are the breaks..

That's if you purchase the $1,200 version instead of the $500/$700 version.

Is this a custom tune?

... would it take advantage of a catless DP, or at least a catted DP? Could it get rid of the CEL on a catless DP?

... would an air intake that gives a CEL no longer give on with this?

No. It's a stock flash tune. Same for everyone. Not sure if Dinan was able to make parameters for non Dinan mods, but my guess is that this is just all Dinan. So any other manufacturers part wouldn't be factored in.
