Exhaust Valve Rattle

So I just had to replace the "Fixing Bow" connecting the Exhaust valve to the actuator controlling it. Figured I'd make a video on how to do it, in case you run into the same rattling issue. Really simple fix in my opinion.

Well made video. Was dropping the hangers necessary? And you also could use a jack stand to hold the muffler up in place when putting it back up.

I watched the video the other day, it took me a day to realize how good the video was - at first I thought the video was too much shtick, but it actually was a very good instructional video, it kind of cleverly burnt the instructions into my brain.

It's not necessary, but it makes things 1000x easier. One of the bolts is tucked away pretty well. Jack stand for the muffler is a good idea.

My 230i is newer but developped this issue too. For now it's intermittent (it loves doing that when at car meets) and it stops when the JB4 opens the valve. I'll have my dealer look at it on the next oil change but I'm thinking about just unplugging it to leave it open and see if it would still rattle

OF COURSE that's when it happens. Next the dealer "can't replicate the issue"

If you go that route, make sure you do when its in the open position. The rattle usually happens when its closed but still loose, so the exhaust gasses still push through, vibrating the valve.

So I managed to fix the issue for good in a way. My car unfortunately was totaled in a front end accident with a drunk driver. For the new car I had installed a dinan freeflow exhaust that eliminates OEM valve. Problem : Fixed .. in a way like I said. I was about to get the dealer to fix my old one but faith killed the car.

I agree! But then everything he takes about seemed like things I'd go through in the process of doing a simple "DIY" like wrong socket size lmao.
