iPhone 7 - Bluetooth Audio

iPhone 7 disconnects from Bluetooth after steaming audio for 10 seconds. Isolated iOS as not the key issue (iPhone SE works fine on the same 10.0.1).

Apple had me swap out the device at the store, the same thing is occurring on the new iP7. Anyone with the new iPhone able to stream audio without issues?

Mine was acting finicky for the first day and a half, with both bluetooth and USB connection. Now it works perfectly fine.

Try force closing the music app and reoppening or a hard reseting your phone. That should solve the issue.

As a side note, you'll enjoy the bluetooth range of the iPhone 7. I can literally leave the car running, run into a store and come back with the bluetooth connection still active. Never used to be able to do that with the 6.

Same here. Initial day issues then after hard reset and repairing no issues.

Glad that ballinisahabit and German1967 experienced the same behavior of the issue going away on its own.

To clarify, do you refer to a 'hard reset' as holding the Power+Volume Down button together until the screen goes black and then the Apple logo shows while it reboots? If so, I tried this on both phones and the issue persists.

Maybe it really does have to settle over time, but my rational side tells me this shouldn't be the case with a digital signal.

Yes, that is a hard reset.
Try deleting the device and pair again. You may also reboot the idrive by push and hold the volume button until it restarts.

As German1967 mention, yes thats the hard reset.

Try double clicking the home button to bring up the multi-task menu, and force close the music app by swiping up on it. Then re-open the music app and hopefully that will fix it.

On a side note, I seem to still have the shuffle problem sometimes (as others mentioned on the other thread), and sometimes get only one song on the playlist when connecting my phone.

Seems like iOS 10 is glitchy with our cars. Used to work perfectly on iOS 9. Hopefully Apple fixes this soon.

Since the home button is no longer physical this i show you hard reset on the iPhone 7 btw, since it is the first time it has changes since the original iPhone instruction.

Having the same problem too, I resetted the iphone 7, deleted iphone 7 Bluetooth memory and set up as new phone again and even updated the OS.

Thought that solution worked cause all was good last night but again this morning on the way to work, 3 seconds in to the song, I cant hear anything but the iphone is still playing music cause I can see the song duration moving on the phone

Hope BMW has a software update soon.

Seems a bit hit and miss. Running three days now without any issues.

Having similar issues as well. Redid the Bluetooth pairing and it seemed to work fine for a day but then it started acting up again. I'm experiencing the 5-10 sec disconnect with Spotify and Apple's Podcasts apps as well.

Edit: I also reset the network settings and that didn't help.

Same issue here too....

Bluetooth audio stream will freeze after 5-10 seconds. Have to reset the phone for it to work again. Then the problem happens after a few minutes of audio.

I'm sure this is effecting multiple people with the new iPhone. How often does BMW update their idrive software? Hopefully they do this quick.

About the easiest thing to do to get it fixed is call the dealer and ask to speak to their genius, make an appointment with her. Drive up to the front of the building walk in, have the genius paged, walk out to your car with her and explain your problem. She'll fix it while the two of you sit in the car. Usually doesn't take more than 15 minutes to fix most problems

What did she do to "fix" it?

There is no update yet from Apple or BMW.

The genius I spoke with said there is nothing they can do until then. Which makes sense. It is a software compatibility issue.

Then that's the answer, there is no fix until the upgrade. There was an upgrade a few weeks ago that improved Bluetooth reliability. I downloaded it myself and installed it and it did improve reliability but I wouldn't say it is rock solid now. There is a thread on this upgrade in this section of the forum.

Yeah it really sucks. I got a 2016 320i as a loaner (had to get my transmission replaced at 6000 miles...smh but that's a story for another day) and am having the same Bluetooth and USB issue that I had in my 2er.

A hard reset of the phone or the iDrive system seems to make the issue go away for a bit, but there is still a 75% chance that when I start the car again the problem resurfaces.

I just got an Audi A4 as a rental, and Bluetooth works flawlessly with iOS 10. So it's def an Apple/BMW issue and hope one of the two parties finds a fix soon.

Side note: Both those cars are no where near as fun to drive or as comfortable as my 228i. But I got to admit, I liked the Audi more than the 3 series.

No issues with mine on my 2014 with an iPhone 7 Plus USB or bluetooth.

Made the big time

Now it's on Macrumors so I guess a lot more visibility will come from this issue and someone might do something about it now!
