I was told by Classic BMW in Dallas that they would NOT cover a 1200 mile service. I was told that true M cars (M3, M4, etc) come with break in fluids and that ALL of those fluids (not just oil) get changed during the 1200 mile service. Since the M235i is not a TRUE M car, it does not come with break in fluids, and does not qualify for a 1200 mile service.

I got my 1200 mile service on May 1. BMWNA paid for it.
I don't know if it is needed or not. My feeling is: if it is free why not get it done. |

Let us know what happens. It took 5 days for my dealer to figure out is was free. I was the first M235i owner to get the service.

BMW of Arlington says it's not covered either. They said it's only covered if the car says there is a service due. They also said it's not a true M car, and therefore does not need the 1200 mile service. Doesn't look like anyone in Dallas is getting this for free. If you are in the Dallas area and do get this somehow, please let me know. In the mean time, I'm gonna learn how to do my own oil change.

There's been nothing official I've seen from BMWNA stating that this is a covered service, so you may have just been lucky at your dealership. If you have some documentation or something in print (like an invoice/receipt) showing the service done and the cost to you, it might be helpful for those of us who are having issues to have that available to show the local dealers... You could block out the personal information on it such as your name/address/vin etc. Also, BMW of Arlington said they were willing to do it and submit the claim to BMWNA but they said it would likely be denied.
