Ordered my M240!

Pretty excited to say I just put in an order for my M240!

Gonna be a long 2 month wait :P

Options:

Black Sapphire Metallic

Oyster Sensatec

Hex Aluminum w/ Black Gloss Trim

Black Gloss Wheels (w/nonrunflat michelins)

Xdrive

Auto (was back and forth a lot on this, but on a modern new car, the auto with paddles just makes sense to me.)

Premium Package (heated seats/steering/nav)

Black Grill

M perf. Exhaust w/ Carbon tips

Trading in my X1 towards it (which I own outright). I originally got the X1 as a daily because I got my "sporty vehicle" fix with my Ducati. After seeing enough friends get hit, losing 2, and being a gigantic cop magnet (always when im not actually doing anything too) I decided to sell my bikes. This is my replacement - and Im thinking I did a good job :P

Anyone else have black with oyster seats? Id be curious to see how it looks in a 2 outside of the configurator!

Yeah I had an e46 as my first bmw (had a beater jeep as my first car) saved for 4 years and bought a used 325 5 speed. That car got me hooked. I always wanted an M3, but never thought Id be successful enough to get one. Worked my ass off and got the bike and a CPO X1.. the bike was fun while I was single, but after losing 2 friends and about 15 "oh shit" moments, I have the money to move away from the bikes.

I was going to get an M2 but 10-15 month estimated wait was a no go got me, then upon further research I realized I actually like the idea of the m240 better as a DD.

They want too much $$ for the M2. I could have gotten one as well when I ordered my M235i however the 5k markup over MSRP and the sh*tty residuals were more than enough to turn me off.

Yeah! My dealer offered me MSRP and a *long* wait, which is better than most dealers who are marking them up like crazy.

But... thats why their list is so long. Still not worth it vs me paying 8% off MSRP, especially with the new B58 and its tuning potential.

I went looking at a car with a 60k budget...

An M2 Optioned with DCT and executive - I am at ~59K msrp w/delivery fee, where I got my M240 for 49K with xDrive (personal preference), Insurance and registration is lower too (no tax in my state, but registration cost is a % based on base MSRP of your model). The problem is, I can option out an M4 and get a discount and get near the M2 price and get it sooner.

I had a moment where I considered an M4, cause I wanted an "m car" then I test drove one vs the m240, and I realized the 240 is just that nice for less money. (less gadgets, but actual driving I enjoyed the 240 more which surprised me a lot)

I love the 2 series size, as it reminds me of my first E46... That gives me a theoretical "$10,000" mod budget, which I plan on using to tune the M240 and make it a pseudo-sleeper, DD-friendly monster

Wise choice. I absolutely love my M235i (xDrive as well). The car was $51.5k got it for $46.9 last March. The M240i is a beast and you are going to love driving it. These cars are so much fun. This is my 4th BMW and the only other one that comes close to the driving experience was an 08' 135i. I think these cars are a bargain for all of the performance you get.

The shitty residual is because BMW doesn’t need to sweeten the deal to move them. 2016s are still selling for MSRP.

However I do agree with you that the 235/240 give you more car for the money.

And because they know when theyre doing an M2 cs or a refresh or a brand new M2... so they can estimate that in 3 year, the first M2 wont be special anymore.

Car companies create enticing residuals to move vehicles. PERIOD. There are 2016s still selling for MSRP.

There have been many CS variations of many M models. Not one of them have made the original any less special.

I've never once heard someone say "hey...your plain ol vanilla E46 M3 is not special at all! why aren't you driving a CS or CSL????" Nor do the CS/CSL e46 M3 make the regular e46 M3 any less expensive or desirable. Nor does the subsequent "brand new" e90 or the F80.

It just doesn't work like that. Each car stands on it's own. It also doesn't help that the M2 CS is going to be made in Leipzig. The same factory currently struggling to get 'regular not special' M2s out. Them sharing the same production line will almost assure that it will be limited by production (not purposely).

With that being said I'm not quite sure why every new 235/240 owner feels the need to explain why they didn't go with the M2. The M235/M240 give a much bigger bang for the buck. All 3 models (235/240/M2) are excellent cars. Everyone should be happy!

I think because of the M- designation and seemingly similar prices before you dig into the details.

I almost wish it was just the "240" cause I like the pseudo sleeper status.

Desirability drives costs, I'm surprised they even offer the M2 for lease honestly.
