So, put it in sports mode and hit the gas - my usual.
Do folks use the paddle shifters? Or put it in manual mode and shift with the stick? Been messing around but haven't fallen in love with either mode. Just wondering what other folks do... Thanks. |

Shift points
I saw a video on one of the forums on how to figure out your shift points. Basically it tells you what your rpm would be in the next higher gear compared to the gear you are in. Then you check what your torque will be and if it's higher in the next gear than the gear you are in then that's what rpm you shift at.
I used my dyno sheet and did a spreadsheet.

Manual mode with paddle shifters 99% of the time.

For my daily around town @ 26 MPG, Comfort and the shifter set to the left in M/S mode. I let the tranny do the shifting. Car always seems ready to leap ahead when applying throttle and uses engine braking at each stop light.
FWIW, there is no way, I'm going to time any paddle shifts to match the programming of the ZF transmission. If anything I'd likely lose performance and break something in the process. |

Does anyone use shifter to the left (sport or sport + mode) for roll racing? Feels like shifter to the left is honestly only good for racing from a dig. I've tried roll racing with the shifter to the left in sport and sport + and everytime you get your RPMs lined up and floor it, it drops to the next gear and completely screws you over. Is there anyway to disable it from automatically dropping to the next gear?
P.S. I usually paddle/shift lever 99% of the time when in sport/sport + mode. |

Most of the time i drive around in comfort mode and drive like a wuss since it's a 35 mile drive to work mostly on the highway. If I see something worth it or I'm feeling sporty I throw it in sport+

Thanks for the thoughts folks. Seems like most move the shifter to the left, and then shift there or via paddles for more fun than just being in auto mode.
I wonder, when BMW says 0-60 in x do they just floor it in auto mode (with launch control?) or do they actually shift. I.e. which is faster? |

Cruising: Comfort & D
Spirited in public: Sport & D on acceleration and S on deceleration. Spirited in private: Sport+ & D on acceleration and S on deceleration. I like the aggressive downshifts in S, but not the aggressive, high RPM, rev hang upshifts in S.

I drive around in comfort most of the time during boring commutes, but when going around town I am in traction mode with the gear lever set to S. This makes the most pops and bangs and is the loudest driving mode. Steering is also in comfort in this mode so it's easy to casually drive. Going into hard turns or overtaking on the freeway, I use sport + with the gear lever set to S. I let the car do the shifting for freeway overtakes, but will manually use the paddles to get into 2nd for fun/hard turns at stoplights. |
